Tommy's First Ear Infection

Summary: What happens the week following Didi's graduation? A short story told from Tommy's POV about surviving his first ear infection. Enjoy.

Tommy POV

If you didn't read about my adventure about my mommy graduating, I'll just tell you it wasn't a lot of fun for me, cuz I didn't feel good. I had a runny nose, and an ow ee in my head, ears and throat. So on the day after she got that piece of paper called a diploma and we had a big party for her, mommy took me to see Doctor Shockter to get my ears looked at.

He put a funny thing in my ears to look at them, and had me open my mouth wide to look at my throat.

"Well Mrs. Pickles, your son definitely has an ear infection. We'll have to put tubes in his ears and give him an anti biotic." Said the doctor.

I didn't like to take medicine, but knew I had to in order to get better. Hopefully it wouldn't leave me tired and cranky like the last time. The doctor put the tubes in my ears. They didn't feel very comfortable, but he said they would help me get the liquid out of them so they wouldn't hurt no more. I was calm and brave, just like I always am.

"That a boy Tommy." The doctor said, patting me on the head, and giving me a lollypop.

I didn't like the tubes in my ears, and kept trying to pull them out.

"No no Tommy, those need to stay there." Mommy said, moving my hands away from my ears.

I looked around, trying to find things to do to keep my mind off of it. It wasn't easy, cuz I didn't feel all that up for exploring, and none of my friends were coming over. Dil wanted to play with me, but mommy wouldn't let him. She told Dilly I had to rest and take it easy. Although with those tubes in my ears, how could I sleep. I was sorry grandpa had moved into the tired home with grandma, cuz there was no one falling asleep with the TV on late at night so I could watch it.

I watched a lot of Reptar and Dummi Bears that week, and took my yucky medicine at meal time, in hopes it would all make the ow ee go away. Finally, a week must have passed, because one morning, when my mommy came to wake me and Dil up, I was in for a pleasant surprise when she took my temperature before breakfast.

"Good news Tommy, your temp is normal." She said, removing the thermometer from my ear. At breakfast, I took the final dose of that yucky medicine with my Reptar cerial, and afterwards, I went back to the doctor's where the tubes were removed.

My ears felt so good, I wiggled them and laughed. My head, ears and throat didn't hurt no more, only, I guess those tubes must have muffled my hearing a little bit, as things sounded really loud when they first took them out. They returned to normen soon enough, and later that day, Taffy came to babysit me and Dilly, and we went to the park.

I ran into Chuckie, Kimi, Phil, Lil, and Zachary in the sandbox, and they were excited to see me.

"How are you feeling Tommy? We've missed you!" Chuckie asked.

"I missed you too Chuckie, but I'm all better." I replied happily.

"Feeling good enough to go on adventures again?" Zack asked.

"I sure am guys, let's go!" I replied, as we left the sandbox and went on an adventure.
