Today was going to be the day. He was going to show up at her doorstep with a poof of smoke and a shower of confetti, proudly holding a fishbowl.

It took him over a year to actually gather the courage to walk into that pet store and another three months to actually buy the terrifying little thing.

But he did it. He got over as much of his fear as he could. He could even hold onto the bowl for at least 30 minutes before succumbing to the familiar panic!

Today was going to be the day he told her. He was going to show her the little scaly thing and tell her. Tell her how he much he hated fish (as if she didn't already know). Tell her how they scared him beyond wits (as if she didn't already see it first hand). Tell her how weird fish were and scaly and disturbing and terrible and just awful (as if she didn't already hear it all before).

Today was going to be the day he told her. He was going to explain why he decided to suck it up and buy a fish. He was going to tell her how much she meant to him (as if she didn't already know). He was going to tell her, hell, SHOW her what he would do just for her (as if she didn't already see it first hand). He was going to tell her he loved her (as if she didn't already hear it before).

Now he's sitting alone in his room, staring at the stupid tiny clown fish.

It was supposed to remind her of him- the class clown, the prankster, the joker. It was supposed to be funny. She would've laughed.

Today was going to be the day.

Unfortunately, it was also the day a little boy decided to try his new tricycle.

The day the little boy rode it out of the park and into the busy streets. The day Aoko decided to take the route home passing through the park.

The day the little boy got stuck in the middle of the road because his darn tricycle got caught in a stupid pothole. The day Aoko just happened to be the only one to think fast enough to help the kid.

The day she wore one of her longer school skirts. The day it just happened to snatch on the tricycle half-stuck in a pothole.

The pothole was just a crack. It wasn't even the size of a saucer, but one of the trike's training wheels decided it was a good day to get stuck.

Decided it was a good day to break into pieces. Decided it was the day he'd lose his best friend. His girlfriend. His fian-

Today was going to be the day. He was going to tell her. He was going finally do it. He was going to, finally, give it to her.

He was going to take care of her. He was going to make her happy. He was going to spend the rest of his life with her.

But today is going to be the longest day of his life.

The last one of Aoko's,

and it felt like his last one too.

It's called Angelfish because, well, Aoko is dead hence "angel". So she's like an angelfish. Kaito can't reach out to her because she's gone, like how he can't seem to fully close the gap between him and fish because of his phobia.

In case you didn't get it, he was supposed to propose to her. The clown fish was going to jump through some rings and Kaito would use smaller rings after each jump until he'd finally pull out an engagement ring.
