"What are you doing?!"
The man called across the windswept ledge, staring in horror as I tossed my chip into the thick of traffic.
"I'm done being trapped here! You hear that Kane? I'm done! You can't keep me here anymore!" I shouted into the wind.
"Who's Kane?" the man called again. I shuddered, thinking back on the months I had been trapped in this stupid game, trying desperately to back my way out. I had tried every way possible to get out, to get away from Kane.
"What did he do?" the man called again, startling me out of my memories.
"He trapped me here for months! Torturing me! He even claimed he was trying to help me discover who I really am!" I cried bitterly. "But I've had enough. If you know what's good for you, you will do everything you can to stay away from him. Make sure he never finds you!"
As I warn him, I lean out over the water, preparing to jump. I know that this time I won't restart, I won't wake up in my pod. I will be free though, and now that's all that matters. Suddenly, the man lunged at me trying to keep me from falling, but instead he fell with me tumbling down towards the dark water below. We hit with a smack and I fell into darkness but only for a second, before I started awake.
...
"Wake up Tanya," the nurse called. "You need to take your medicine before you see Doctor Kane."
She smiled sweetly when she turned away, though Tanya saw the smile slip off her face as she grumbled about the madhouse and how she felt she could never get away from the crazies here.
