"Her last act was one of defiance."

Lily had been sitting with Harry on her lap when it happened. She wasn't quite sure what had tipped James off, all she knew was that one moment he was in his chair and the next he suddenly stood up and looked out the window. She looked up from her book when he got up.

All the color drained from her husband's face as he stared out the window. "Lily, take Harry and go!" He shouted, turning away from the window. "It's him! Go! Run! I'll hold him off-"

Lily had already started to run, heading towards the staircase. She could hear the door blasting open, and the high-pitched cackle of a madman. "You won't get away this time Potter!" He said. James responded with a cutting curse.

Harry let out a confused gurgle, and Liky looked into those emerald green eyes so much like her own. "Don't worry love." She said as she ran down the hallway, past the baby carriage that Harry'd almost outgrown. "You'll be okay. You'll be fine, darling."

She wasn't sure if she believed herself.

Lily slammed the nursery door behind her, whispering spells she knew would barely stop Voldemort. She reached for the emergency portkey, clinging to the hope that He would've forgotten to put up wards.

"Phoenix." She said, though a small part of her knew it wouldn't work.

Nothing.

Despair rushed through her and her knees nearly gave out at the thought that they would all die. That all their precautions, all their plans had been for nothing.

All because of Peter. She was going to kill him! If she got out alive.

Lily placed Harry in the crib, and kissed him on the forehead. "Harry, . baby, you'll be fine." She whispered a desperate prayer to someone, anyone who could save her precious baby. She even murmured a plea to Hecate, the goddess of magic whom the older pureblood families honored. "Hecate O triple faced Goddess of magic please save my baby-"

She was cut off when a horribly high voice screamed "Avada Kedavera!" and a soft thump of something hitting the floor. She stood, frozen as her mind processed the information.

James!

BANG!

The door was flung open and suddenly she was face to face with Voldemort.

"Not Harry, not Harry, please not Harry!" She said. Lily wondered briefly why she was bothering to try and plead with the madman.

"Stand aside, you silly girl...stand aside, now..." For a moment she was shocked, surprised that the man was giving her a chance to live. But to live in place of her son?

Hell no!

"Not Harry, please no, take me, kill me instead!"

The cold, unnatural, bloodred eyes of her attacker sneered. "One last chance. Step aside!"

Anger pulsed through her veins and she straightned up, wishing she had her wand.

"HELL NO!"

"Avada Kedavera!"

Bright emerald death rushed towards her and then she knew nothing.
