He walked into the loft, shoulders hunched, eyes downcast, depression radiating off his tired body. He had just gotten back from dropping his little girl off at university. Yes, she was only five hours away, and yes, he could see her almost anytime he wanted thanks to Skype and cellphones, but now, here, he was alone in this giant apartment. Not even his mother was still around, as she had been staying at the little apartment over her acting studio more and more as of late. Even Kate couldn't be with him tonight, as she had had a court date this afternoon, and she was in the middle of a case as well. He could have headed down to the precinct but he knew he couldn't put on a happy face today.

Shrugging off his coat and kicking off his shoes, he started to walk towards his bedroom, thinking of Kate and their current relationship. They were dating, and had been for about a month, but only close family and friends knew, and they hadn't crossed that line yet. They wanted to go slow, get this thing right. After unbuttoning and taking off his dress shirt and undershirt, he slipped out of his jeans and tossed it all into the hamper just inside his walk-in closet before he made his way into the bathroom, thinking that a nice hot shower then an evening with a bottle of scotch and his laptop would be the perfect way to escape. So wrapped up in his thoughts, he didn't notice the door slightly ajar to the bathroom, or the heels by the door, or the pile of clothes next to his hamper, but what he did notice was the leggy brunette sunk up to her neck in hot water and bubbles, her long legs resting up on one side of the tub, Heat Wave in her left hand, and wine glass in her left. Her curly long hair in a messy bun atop her head, the stands that had managed to escape curled into tight ringlets. He lost his breath and came to a stop when he saw her, and she, well she put down the book, sat up slightly and held out another glass of wine. Smiling at his shocked face, she pulled her feet further into the giant tub, and sat back, while asking him if we was going to join her.

He did.

Then they did.
