Just a little something I came up with a few days ago. Figured it merited an upload. :D
Hope you like it!
Winter Solstice
It was early in the morning when you found her, standing amidst the falling snow.
It had been years since he had left. He had followed not too long after.
Although, he was the only one not here. He was always present, and yet not entirely here.
Its ironic how the two of them brought the two of you together. Women pining for what could never be theirs.
But she was always different. She was always stronger.
You were always wandering, faltering, struggling to stand on level ground. You could never reach your dreams.
It was at times like these you sought her out. Only she could understand.
She turned around and met your eyes. Yours had long lost their spark. Hers were still thriving.
It was at times like this you didn't understand why she kept holding on.
She reads the unvoiced question in your eyes, and gives you a soft smile. Knowing, and tolerant.
You feel like a child.
She opens her tiny mouth, blued by the cold, and although her voice is slightly rasp from disuse, it contains volition, something you had thrown away long, long ago.
You stare at her cheeks, made rosy by the chill, and wonder if this was one of the reasons he never saw you – your cheeks always stayed pale, no matter how hot or cold it became.
And then she speaks.
"Sometimes, that's how love works. You fight for the other person, even if they don't give a damn. It's stupid, but nobody ever said falling in love was a smart thing to do."
You wonder, hearing those words, as you gaze up the ashen sky, if you had ever done anything right in your life.
You feel the night breeze and silently shiver.
No, you decide, you don't think so.
Author's Note:
The use of pronouns are intentional, so as to keep an air of mystery, but my intended pairings are NejiTen and SasuSaku. Was it obvious to anyone?
Please tell me if you liked it. :D
