*The next morning and Leah comes in to see Ste and Brendan cuddling. Thankfully both of them had the sense to get dressed before falling asleep. Leah potters around the kitchen and starts moving a stool to the side. Lucas comes in rubbing his eyes*
"Leah, what are you doing?" He asks sleepily
"Making daddy breakfast" she says kneeling on the stool
"I'll help" Lucas says pulling another stool to Leah's side.
"What does daddy Brendan eat?"
"Meat?"
"I know… how about eggs and a bowl of cereal?"
"Ok! I'll make the cereal!" Lucas says jumping down and getting the rice krispies out of the cupboard. He clambers up the stool awkwardly, spilling some in the process before pouring them into a bowl. "how we gonna make eggs Leah?"
"Hmmm.. I've seen mummy make them loads." She says climbing onto the kitchen side. She pulls a pan out of the cupboard and drops it with a crash onto the floor. Ste wakes up and goes into the kitchen.
"What are you monkeys up to?"
"We were making you and daddy Brendan breakfast, but I can't boil eggs."
"that's so sweet but you mustn't ever cook without mummy, me or daddy Brendan ok? You could get hurt"
"Ok daddy"
"You guys go and watch cartoons and I'll make the eggs and then call you when they're done so you can wake Brendan ok?"
The kids go and watch cartoons until Ste calls them in.
"Daddy you have to peel the shell off! Daddy Brendan might not be able to with his poorly arm" Leah says tugging on his pyjama top. Ste obliges and peels all the eggs.
"Me and Lucas will do the rest now" she says pushing Ste out of the kitchen. "We won't touch the eggs"
"Don't you need me to make toast?"
"No"
"Yeah daddy out you go!" Lucas says helping Leah push him out
Ste lets them push him onto the sofa and the kids return to the kitchen. Lucas looks in the fridge.
"Uhh, Leah? We've got no milk"
"Oh. Maybe if we mix the rice krispies and the egg and mash it up it'll be ok? It gets mixed in our tummies anyway" She says enthusiastically mashing rice krispies into the soft boiled eggs. "Maybe daddy should've just made toast. Oh well!" Leah says using a wooden spoon to put it into four separate plates that Ste had laid out earlier.
They wake Brendan up and give Ste and Brendan their breakfast before going back to get theirs.
"What's this?" Brendan says a little confused
"I don't know… I boiled eggs for them, they added the cereal themselves" Ste whispers
"Well… here it goes" Brendan says eating some. He doesn't want to hurt the kids feelings when they've tried so hard so he prepares a fake smile and thinks of something to say, but surprisingly it tastes good… really good.
"mmmm Steven, you gotta try it, It's actually really nice" Brendan says tucking in
"Seriously?" Ste says cautiously trying a nibble. "You're right, it's pretty good!"
The kids sit companionably eating their breakfast too. Once they've eaten Ste gives Brendan a hand getting dressed and ready to go out while Leah helps Lucas. Ste comes in to find Lucas wearing a tutu and his shirt inside out while Leah has squeezed herself into Lucas' trousers which end about 3 inches from her ankles. Ste laughs and helps them get dressed properly before they all go out.
