"Mama, where is Jacob!" Renesmee woke up with a startled expression.

Her mother, Bella Swan was in her room in an instant.

"What's wrong, Renesmee?" she asked a bit worried.

"Mama, where is he?"

"He's probably sleeping outside or running around in the woods, honey." Bella's tone was reassuring. After all, that was what her best friend, Jacob Black, did at night.

Renesmee's breathing did not slow. She was alarmed and frightened. Bella looked at her with questions in her eyes.

Renesmee placed her small hot hand on her mother's face, and in an instant her mind was flooded with images of Jacob accompanied by the feeling of loss she felt in her dreams. Bella now understood why she had been so scared.

"It's okay, honey, it was just a nightmare, Jacob would never, ever leave you. Do you want me to go get him?" Bella asked.

The tiny girl placed her hand or her mother's cheek once more, and placed a firm Yes in her mind.

Renesmee watched her mother disappear and heard her as she called Jacob's name.

A few minutes passed, but he was still not there. The small child was growing anxious. She needed to know that her Jacob was safe.

She heard the door open.

Her eyes lit up as the tall russet skinned man walked through her door.

"Jacob!" she ran to his arms.

"Hey, Ness, what's wrong? You having nightmares?" he asked her as he lifted her off the floor and cradled her in his arms.

Her hand pressed against his cheek.

He saw the images that had hunted her dreams, mostly of him.

"Nessie, that's plain silly…" he began.

The tiny girl flushed and looked down ashamed.

"Do you truly believe I would ever leave you?" he asked her.

She put a no in his mind.

"Good, because I won't" he told her smiling.

The girl giggled in his arms.

"Jacob, my dream made me miss you very much." She spoke.

"Well, I'm here now. I won't ever leave you unless you want me to." he told her.

She made a small sound that sounded like a gasp and pressed her hand against his cheek.

No!

It felt as if she had shouted the word.

"Alright then, guess you're stuck with me forever then, kiddo." he said, setting her down on her bed.

She smiled at the sound of the word forever. She wanted to have her Jacob next to her forever.

"Time for bed though, don't you think?"

She put a picture of his wolf form, lying on the floor next to her bed, in his mind.

"Ah, you want me to stay?" he laughed.

She nodded.

"Please, Jacob? I'll sleep better if you are near me." Her sweet voice said.

Jacob turned to look at Bella, who was standing in the doorway, watching them.

She smiled and then nodded.

"Jacob can stay, Renesmee. But only if you promise to go to sleep right away" her mother told her.

She nodded, and quickly settled in her bed.

"I'll be right back, Ness." He told the small girl as he walked out of her room.

Seconds later, Renesmee's face brightened again as she watched the large russet wolf walk in.

He pressed his nose to her forehead before lying down next to her.

"I love you, Jacob"

"Love you too, Ness"

Bella stopped at the sound of her daughter's words, smiled and opened the door of her room to find her husband, Edward, on her bed with a troubled look in his eyes.

"You heard that too then?" she asked him trying to hide her growing smile.

"Hmmph"

"Don't be upset…she doesn't love him like this yet" She said placing her hand on top of her motionless heart, and a kiss on his lips

He smiled.

"That gives me about five years until she does." He said.

"He'll deserve her"

"I know"
