Of Fools and Kings
Disclaimer: I don't Sailor Moon or that handsome fool Mamoru. Wish I did, but I don't.
Chiba Mamoru sat at the counter of the Crowne Arcade sipping his coffee and pretending to read his newspaper. In actuality, he was waiting for a certain odango-haired blond to come bursting through the doors after detention was let out. There was something about her that always drew him to her. He fought the strange feeling as best as he could by teasing and tormenting her, because the feeling terrified him.
An hour late to meet her friends, but right on schedule, Tsukino Usagi flew through the doors with a smile and a laugh. She called to her friends and then hopped onto the stool next to Mamoru.
"Motoki-oni-san, can I have a double chocolate milkshake? I was on time today, but Haruna-senshi still gave me detention," she pouted thrusting out her lower lip.
"So odango, if you were on time, which I highly doubt since you spent so much time yelling at me for making you late, what did you get detention for? Fail another test? What was it this time? A 20?" Mamoru teased her.
Instead of yelling at him and continuing the argument like normal, Usagi's eyes teared up, and she ran out of the arcade. Mamoru's hear plummeted. Why hadn't she fought back?
"You are a fool," a voice that sounded eerily familiar said behind him.
Mamoru turned to see a man that looked almost identical to himself, but maybe a few years older and with lavender hair.
"I don't see how it's any of your business," Mamoru told hi purple-haired doppelganger.
"Believe me it is. That is the most special girl in the world, and one day your actions are going to come back to haunt you. She is a queen among women. An angel of love and light sent to earth, and you are a fool. The court jester who is too blind to see what is right in front of your face," the man said.
"How do you know this? She is just a silly little girl who thinks of nothing but manga and milkshakes," Mamoru said.
"As I said a fool," said the lavender-haired man.
"And what are you, but a fool as well butting into things you know nothing about," Mamoru seethed.
"You are right. I am a fool. However, I am an enlighted fool, and therefore, a king," the man said.
"Your hair suggests otherwise," Mamoru replied.
"It comes with being king. One day, you too will be enlightened. That is if you can let go of being a fool," said the man who turned to leave the arcade.
"Who are you?" Mamoru called after the man.
"I am a former fool and future king. You may refer to me as Endymion," the man says as he leaves.
