Austria didn't know why he stayed up so late that night; something just seemed to bother him. He absentmindedly sipped his tea, contemplating life itself. His thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door.
He opened it to find a rain-soaked Switzerland. The blonde nation stared at the ground, looking broken.
"Vash, why have you come so late?" The Austrian asked. "And the rain, you're soaking wet. That can't be good for you."
"She's dead." He muttered.
Austria didn't really know how to reply. "Come in; take off your wet clothing. I'll get you some tea."
Switzerland shook his head. He sat in front of the fire, his knees pulled to his chest. Austria wrapped his arms around the other nation.
"Vash, you have every right to be upset about this, but please talk to me."
He shook his head.
"Come on, Vash, it is what your sis-"
"Well she's gone now!" He snapped, forcing himself out of Austria's grip and standing. "Don't you dare bring her up ever again!"
Austria put a hand on his shoulder. "Isn't that why you came here? Lilli was one of the only people who cared about you, now she's gone."
Switzerland sat down on the couch. "Well, she's gone now. What's there even to say?"
Austria sat down next to him. "It's not really your sister I want to talk about, Vash, it's you. How are you dealing with this? Don't hide your emotions from me, I want the real you."
Tears began to roll down Switzerland's face. "Why her? Out of everyone, it had to be her? Why Lilli, she never hurt a fly? Why couldn't it be me?"
"Don't talk like that. How do you think Lilli would act if you were to one to die? She'd be all alone, unable to protect herself."
"That's enough!" Switzerland screamed. "I'm sorry, I failed. Just stop making it worse. I don't know why I even came to you."
Austria sighed. "You came to me because I'm the only person you could. Who else were you supposed to go to? Prussia?"
Switzerland thought about this a bit, and once he'd calmed down a bit, gave a reply.
"I don't know. I just came here because you're really my only friend. I have nobody, just you."
"I want to be there for you, Vash. You were there for me when Hungary left, and when I lost all those battles, so I want to be there for you. It's my turn to protect you."
