Prompt: McDonalds

Prompt: McDonalds

Kim twisted the little paper napkin in her lap as she squirmed in the hard, plastic seats. She'd been there for half an hour and had eaten half of her…well McDonalds called it a salad. She called it toxic waste.

She looked around again, although she knew she'd never see him coming. That was her dad, never one to walk through the front door when he could….

"Hello Kim."

"Shit!" Kim yelled when she turned and saw her father sitting across from her, "What is wrong with you?"

"Quiet!" he hissed, "Don't attract attention."

Kim nodded and looked down at her salad again, "Hi."

"Hi," Jack said, "You look good, sweetie."

Kim smiled, "Thanks. You look," she glanced up at him, "Surprisingly good. I guess Chloe's been taking good care of you."

Jack smiled at that, "Yeah, she has. She told me she wasn't letting me get all bearded and thin like the last time I was on the run."

Kim laughed, "That sounds like Chloe." She was quiet for a moment, and then asked, "How long can you stay?"

Jack glanced at his watch, "Only a few more minutes. I don't like to be out in the open this long."

She nodded, dipping her head down as she felt her eyes fill.

"I'm sorry," he said, "You know I wish I had longer. Maybe I should never have come."

"No," she said sharply, reaching across to grab his hand, "I'm glad you came. Ten minutes in a McDonald's is better than no minutes at all."

Jack smiled, "I love you Kim."

"I love you, Daddy."

"Now, I've got five minutes left. Tell me everything that's happened in the last six months."

Kim smiled, "I hope weren't being funny, because I can totally do that."

Jack laughed, "I was serious. Go for it."

Kim squeezed her father's hand as she began to talk. And for five very short minutes, she got to be a normal girl just talking to her father at a McDonalds.

It was totally worth the food poisoning she got later that night.
