Often wondered what would happen if Kate didn't die instantly, and I hope this is as good as I thought it would be!

They heard the gunshot, all three of them. Kate fell heavily, not even making a sound.

'Get help DiNozzo!' Gibbs yelled as he whipped round, looking for the shooter. He saw no one.

'Going boss!' Tony shot like a bullet from the rooftop and down the stairs, leaving Kate's lifeless form.

'Kate?' Gibbs asked quietly, holding his breath.

'Gibbs...' she struggled for lungfuls of air. He knelt beside her, pulling her into his arms.

'Shhh...you've been shot but Tony's gone for help.' He muttered, shifting her weight so she was comfortable.

'Tell me something I don't know...' she joked, trailing off at the end, her breathing becoming more laboured, '...it...it hurts Gibbs...'

'I know Kate, I know.' He tried to reassure her, but he knew it was helpless, she was dying.

'No...I mean, I love you...and now I'm not going to see you again...' she heaved in lungfuls of air, her eyes closing in sheer agony.

He saw the blood trickle from the corner of her mouth and cried silently, 'I love you too Kate...I loved you then, I love you now and I will love you forever...'

His whisper was lost as she cried out in distress.

'Gibbs...it hurts! It hurts, make it stop!' she screamed, writhing in pain.

'I wish I could Kate...' he held her closer, powerless...she was in pain and he couldn't stop it, he couldn't free her. He felt overwhelming anguish take hold of his body.

'Make it stop...I don't want to feel it...' she was fading fast, her eyes shut tight and her hands slackening their grip on him. Katelyn Todd was dying.

'You will see me again Kate...In heaven.' He gently kissed her lips; pulling away he looked into her tear filled eyes.

She nodded slowly, her breathing becoming shallower.

'I don't...I don't want to die though...' She whispered her head begining to loll.

'You won't...you'll just be sleeping.' He wiped a few of her tears away as he heard shouting and sirens.

A ghost of a smile passed her lips.

'Good night Gibbs.' Her last words were supposed to be humourous.

'Good night Kate.' He smiled at her wit for such a morbid affair; watching as her eyelids closed for the last time and her body became limp in his arms.

'Boss! I got help...' he trailed off as he saw Kate's motionless form.

'Too late Tony...you were too late.' He tenderly lay her back down where she had fallen and stood, looking out across the city which glowed in the setting sun; the taste of Kate's blood on his lips.

Please review, I'd love to know what you think about it.
