A/N: So. This.
i have to say, I'm not the biggest fan of Coppelion. I've watched the anime, and I feel it's just grappling and not going anywhere. I heard that manga fans disapprove of the anime as well. I figure I'll give the manga a shot soon.
In the meantime, have a drabble of everyone's favourite class president and white-haired pretty boy. Don't read this if you're not up-to-date with the anime! Episode 12, currently.

until the day he returns, she'll hold onto his broken promise, awaiting the day they'll be able to mend it back.
"Science has both positives and negatives. You're definitely on the positive side.
Smile, Naruse."
...
Sometimes, as she sleeps, the night cradling her in its sooth, she has fleeting thoughts.
They're an unusual occurrence. The thoughts are absurd, like none other. At times they were typical ones she always pondered, thoughts of glimpsing the outside world, as seen in one too many books she's read. Other times, they're ridiculous — snapshots of flying pods and oozing bubbles until she wakes up a headful of sweat wondering what in the name of heck was that supposed to be.
"They're dreams," Haruto explained when she came up to him inquiring of them; he did seem to know everything, after all. "Mere senseless thoughts when you sleep. It happens. Don't fret about it so much."
"You're lying," she was quick to retaliate, but she smiled when she noted him sparing her a glance with that ever-persistent smirk. "Everything has a purpose, or it wouldn't be there in the first place."
"If that's what you'd like to think, Naruse."
...
"Wait, Haruto! Y...You'll come back, won't you?"
...
She dreams.
She dreams about him leaning over her as she naps on the rooftop of their school, basking in the sun's rays and the cold wind brushing her skin, the sun behind his back illuminating his figure. She dreams of his figure carrying her back to Planet as she's unconscious. She dreams of him telling her to smile, Naruse, as he walks along the train tracks and the wind sweeps him away and she never sees him again —
When she wakes up, she's drenched with sweat and tears, and there's nothing she can do to stop her tears from flowing, the image of his smile etched firmly into her mind.
And she dreams.
...
But he's there, the memory of him stays, it lingers with the grenade he left behind, and she cradles the fragile memento to sleep, if it's only to help her believe that even though he's gone, he's still there.
...
"Ibara-senpai?"
She brings herself back to reality and turns to Aoi, the girl stooping downwards to her eye-level, a worried expression upon her face.
"What is it, Aoi?" The class president asks with a smile, standing up and patting her skirt lightly. Aoi leaps back up, expressing relief before yanking her hand enthusiastically.
"C'mon, Ibara-senpai! We're ready to go." She says excitedly, and Ibara catches sight of Taeko a ways further, holding her carry-bag and waving at her with a smile.
Smile, Naruse.
"Alright, then?" She calls out, and Aoi cries out in joy, running over to Taeko and waving her arms back and forth wildly. Ibara fingers her pocket, smiling when she comes in contact with the smooth surface of the grenade. She flashes her trademark grin before dashing over to her classmates.
"Let's go!"
...
Shell be waiting till the day he returns.
Till then, she'll dream, dreams about the smile he reserves just for her, dreams about holding his hand and basking in the outside world, dreams about the day he'll return and she'll yell at him for leaving so long, and how he'll simply laugh in return. About his laugh. About him.
Till then, she'll hold onto his broken promise, awaiting the day they'll be able to mend it back.
