Prompt: Simple

Lindsay always thought that the good things, the amazing things in life were hard to get. Her mother had always told her that nothing was gained without a little hard work. Her father told her that nothing worth having was easy to get. She'd always believed that. If she wanted something in her life, she would have to fight for it.

And fight she did. She fought to get over her past, fought to get out of her little town, to have adventures. She fought for a scholarship to the best college in Montana, somewhere she could take a varied number of courses in chemistry and biology and criminology and law so that she would be ready for the job she'd wanted since she was 16 years old.

She fought to get her job in New York, beating out several other more experienced people with her skills and confidence. She worked hard from the moment she got to New York, wanting to show everyone that she could do it. She wanted everyone to know that she wasn't just some hick from Montana. She was a CSI, through and through.

It had been hard, lonely at times, but eventually she got there. She was accepted and respected for a job she loved doing. She made a difference in the world. She helped put away the man that killed her friends and many other murderers.

It was never simple, but she made it happen.

Which was why she always expected her relationships to be difficult. She had a hard time opening up, and she wasn't exactly the most…girly woman that ever existed. She could get too caught up in work and she set her expectations high.

When she'd gone on her first date with Donald Flack, she was sure it was all going to go wrong. They worked together, after all, and that was just bound to be complicated.

Only wasn't. It was easy, effortless. She and Don fell in love and she never looked back.

It turned out that the most important things in the world weren't difficult at all.

Loving Don was simple…simply the best thing that had ever happened to her.
