A Crack In The Ice
"Get away from me you twisted bastard!" I yelled, waterwhipping him sharply across the forehead.
"Hey! You little-!" He started.
"You little what? Huh? What am I?" I screamed in his face, waterwhipping him again and again. I could never get enough of hurting him. Not after what he did to me. No, it was with a savage pleasure that I hurt him. It was kind of sick, yes, but I did it anyway.
"Nevermind! But you do know we have to work together, right?" He asked, rubbing his sore head. Serves him right.
"Alright..." I say bitterly. I walk ahead of him, the frozen lands oh so familiar to me. We were at the South Pole again, Reuniting one last time with our family before we faced Ozai. Unfortunately, other people had to come too.
"What are we looking for again?" He asks after moments of silence. The nerve.
"Why should I tell you?" I ask, I knew it was childish and stupid to say, but I spat it out anyway.
"So I can help." He said, his voice bored from stating the obvious. He had never been very polite.
"Well, Prince Zuko, if you must know, we are looking for the famed Feilan Fish. It's Gran-Gran's favorite." I say. I bend down, bend some snow off the frozen surface of the lake we were standing on and carve a crude circle with my waterwhip..
"Pft, you know, I could just melt the ice." Zuko suggested. I laughed a little at his comment.
"Oh? And kill us when the ice breaks and we drown? How pleasant." I retort. Okay, maybe that won't happen, but I need to hate him. I cannot let him help.
"Pft. Whatever." He said. The jerk.
"Why don't you do something helpful?" I growl.
"Like?" He asks.
"Kill yourself." I had never really forgiven him for the whole betrayal in Ba Sing Se. The bastard deserves every insult I can throw at him.
"Fine!" He yells. With my back turned, I can't really see what's happening, but I hear a scream, the rush of fire, the heat prickling my skin. I gasp. He couldn't have. Could he...?
"Zuko!" I yell, abandoning the fishing pole I was working with to rush to his side. He actually did it. I look over his body...it was full of burns. He was drenched in blood...the idiot actually killed himself. And I told him too.
I collapse on his chest. This can't be true. I whip out my water and begin healing, but I can't help but think it's too late. Just when I'm about to give up...
The jerk springs to life.
"HA! You do care!" He laughs.
"You- you!" I fume, unable to find the word suitable enough to express what I'm feeling. That's the problem. What am I feeling? I deiced soon enough and 'express' it to him immediately.
"You're alive!" I say, hugging him. I can tell he's shocked. I bet he'd never see this one coming.
I pull back a little and stare into his beautiful golden eyes.
"Katara..." He starts. Wow, he called me Katara. Not Peasant or Watertribe girl. Or even Watertribe peasant.
So I suppose he sorta does deserve what's coming to him. I wonder if he has a clue.
"Shush." I said softly. Slowly, I lean in and in a few second, my lips are pressed against his. He freezes at first, then relaxes. I now see the perks of kissing a firebender. He's so warm and said warmth soon spread up my spine to my entire body. I am truly enjoying myself here.
Okay, so all it took for me to realize how I feel was for Zuko to die. Wow.
I guess everything, especially ice, has to crack sometime.
