A/N: 31 days, February 4st: when all the world dissolves.YOSH I AM FINALLY WRITING FIC FOR MY FY OTP. YEAAAAAAH. Some inspiration coming from Martin Carter's This is the dark time, my love.

Cradled in Tamahome's arms, Nuriko smiles, a mere curving of his lips. For all the pain he is in, for all his wounds, for all the sorrow and anger that he feels inside that he is about to leave this world, leave Miaka and his friends without even a proper goodbye… he is happy. Happy that he could serve them in this way, happy that he could help. He cannot think of another group of people that he would rather die for. Though his death is uncertainly untimely… he has served his purpose.
Absently, he can hear Miaka stumbling off, trying to find Mitsukake and the others. His heart goes out to her, and he wishes he could bring back her light, but right now, his own is fading, fading, and he doesn't know here he is going. Everything begins to move too fast, and there are too many colours and too many lights, and frantic, Nuriko reaches out for something, any thought or any memory that can sustain him.
The last thing he sees is a pair of kind, golden brown eyes.
Hotohori drops his pen as his heart stills. His eyes grow wide and he somehow feels like he cannot breathe, though the function comes to him as easily as ever before. His chest feels tight and hot and constrained, as if he is in mourning, and in his mind, soft lilting laughter rings out and echoes. Suzaku's mark burns.
His attendant calls out to him in a concerned voice, and the emperor looks up. He is being watched strangely, and the treaty is still on the desk before him. Reluctantly, he shakes off the feeling as best as he can, and resumes his work.
The curious feeling in his chest remains, though. He cannot place it.
