Just a
drabble. This was originally attempted to be part of fanfiction 100,
but I never managed to get a place in the community, so I've
decided to just post up the stories and drabbles I wrote for the
prompts. Art School
Prompt: School
Derek Centred.
"She said we should go back to school."
Derek looked up at the college building with apprehension. It was an ancient building, built of grey stone and marble columns. It housed a museum, a small chapel, and one of the most renowned art schools in the country. Clutching at the portfolio that contained his best artwork he climbed the steps that led into the building.
His summer had not gone well, and Derek was under no illusions about who was to blame. He hated himself for what he had done (and more for what he had almost done) to Christie.
After Yattacon he had made a vow to himself and the world. He would make something good of himself, and repay the world for the evil he'd done. He'd turn his life around completely.
And it started with the first piece of advice he'd received that fateful weekend.
"My honest opinion: you need art school."
Once the dust had settled Derek had taken Lida's advice to heart. He had worked like mad to put together a portfolio before college applications closed all together. Of course, he could have got a place in a local college with barely any work at all, but he was determined to give his all to something worthwhile. And so he had slaved sleeplessly day and night, and made numerous phone calls to colleges still accepting late applications. Until, finally, he found himself here, on the steps of a college, heading for his first face-to-face interview.
As he pushed open the door that led into the building Derek took a deep breath, and steeled himself to answer all the trick questions the interviewer was bound to throw at him.
Because as far as he could see, school was his best chance to getting on the right path again.
