The Best Way to Hang a Christmas Tree!
By: katie4dragons
"Draco! Draco!" a frazzled looking Luna Lovegood ran down the hall. "You're here! You made it!"
"Of course I made it. Malfoys are never late." He replied, stepping into the Lovegood home and closing the door gently behind himself. Luna grabbed him by the wrist and dragged him into the brightly colored living room. Mr. Lovegood looked up from the various boxes of Christmas decorations on the floor.
"Hello Draco. You're just in time to help us put up our holiday decorations." He said, pushing a large box in the general direction of the two teenagers.
"Oh, Draco! We're going to do the Christmas tree!" squealed Luna.
Together they bent down and unfolded the cardboard flaps of the box. Luna began to pull ornament after ornament out, each one earning a squeal of delight. Draco looked around.
"Uh, Luna?" he said, looking across the box at her. "Where's the tree?"
She looked up, puzzlement and confusion etched across her face.
"Outside of course." She stated dreamily, standing up. Once again she grabbed Draco's wrist and pulled him back into the hall. They both put on their boots and headed outside. Luna led them both to the back of her oddly shaped house. There was the ugliest, smallest, most pitiful tree that Draco Malfoy had ever had the misfortune to lay eyes on.
"Isn't it beautiful?" breathed Luna.
"Sure is Luna, sure is." He lied for her.
He reached down and picked it up, causing a good half of the brown pine needles to fall off into the white snow. They tromped back to the house and dropped off their boots in the hall. Once they were back in the living room Draco pulled a tree stand out of a moldy box and made a move to put the tree into it.
Luna gasped and grabbed his arm to stop him. "What are you doing!" she cried, "Are you crazy?"
Draco looked at her, clearly thinking she was the crazy one here. "I'm putting the tree in a tree stand." He explained slowly.
"You can't put it in that way!" she cried, grabbing the stand from him. She pulled her wand out from behind her ear and pointed it at the tree stand.
"Wingardium Leviosa!" Instantly it floated up into the air and bumped into the ceiling. Luna then used a sticking charm so that it would stay there.
"Luna?" Draco was looking at her with a mild level of concern. "Trees usually don't go on the ceiling."
Luna looked over at him, a look of total shock plastered to her face. "Well, how else do you expect to keep out the Nargles? They hate trees that are upside-down! It's the only way to keep them off of the tree." She said this as if it was the most obvious thing in the whole world. Clearly she was under the impression that everyone had this odd tradition. She then turned back to the ugly tree and used her wand to put it into the tree stand. As soon as she turned it upside down every remaining needle fell to the floor. She seemed not to notice.
Luna then grabbed a string of color changing beads and draped them over the tree. Draco decided to just go along with her strange tradition. He started hanging up baubles and some of Luna's own quirky handmade decorations.
Not long after they finished up. Draco and Luna slowly backed away from the garish tree. Luna started up at it in awe.
"It's ever so pretty." whispered Luna, taking Draco's hand in her own.
"Yes it is." agreed Draco, smiling and nodding his head.
"Happy Christmas, Draco."
"Happy Christmas, Luna."
The End.
AN: Personally I think it would be fun to try hanging a Christmas tree, but it probably wouldn't end well. Merry Christmas! Reviews are welcome. :)
