Make it Work

"Takagi, I don't think this is really a 'cult' type of thing..."

The boy in question gave a comical frown, his mouth and features twisting in such a way that one would either think that he was attempting (and failing) to hold in a long fit of laughter or that he was explicitly constipated. Whichever it was, it made for an amusing expression.

"But...but I liked this one!" he whined.

"Hey, I didn't say that I disliked it. I just don't think we'll have much of a chance getting into Jump, or even Akamaru. Once we get ourselves established, we'll be able to do nonsense-based things like this," answered Mashiro, nibbling the end of his pen. He swung back and forth on his swiveley chair as he explained why they couldn't expand on the name.

"So harsh, Saiko!" his friend answered. Mashiro, however, had veered the chair around in a 180, giong back to the drawings that he had previously been composing before the miniscule interruption. From behind him, he heard paper being crumpled and a feigned whimper every few seconds. he could only imagine what Takagi was doing that there. Hugging the paper close to his chest, coddling it, amongst other weird and stupid things only Takagi would think to do, and effectively pull off without looking like a total ass.

But he really did like the name, hoever unfit he thought it was for their current goal. The whole pretense was so ridiculous that it might actually work. However, that might meant very high odds, and it was a risk that Mashiro wasn't about to take. His pen began to move of its own accord, and the artist found himself drawing out the characters of the name that Takagi had (literally) handed to him on a silver platter. When he finished, he set down his pen and picked up the paper, surveying for any mistakes or features that he might need to work on in the future. He noticed in passing that the forms were extremely lithe, uncommon for his style, and they looked unforced and natural, their poses and facial expressions exaggerated in a most pleasant manner. Finding nothing that needed to be checked, he glanced at it a second time, looking for personality in the sketches, in which he found a lot of it.

Maybe...

Mashiro jumped slightly, Takagi's face having suddenly appeared in his line of view. "Are you absolutely, positively, really, really sure? I mean, I thought about it in the last few minutes...and I really think it's a winner!"

He gave a small smile as he looked up at his waiting friend, nodding. "On second thought, I agree with you. I kind of already drew the characters for it, anyway...We can make this work."

Takagi gave a loud whoop and jumped into the air, punching it for emphasis. "Awesome! Awesomeawesomeawesome. I'll get to work right now!"

Okay. So, the reasoning behind this?

I was reading Bakuman and remembered that the manga was written by one guy, but drawn by another. Subconciously, I drew that parallel from the real world to the actual manga. I mean, wouldn't it be awesome if Bakuman was, in a way, autobiographical to the two guys who make the manga? Sans the romance part, as that's kind of absurd and out there..though I suppose it could happen.

So then, I thought that, hey, what if Takagi and Mashiro make something like that? About tw young boys wanting to be mangakas? It'd be like the same story within a story about the same thing written by a couple of guys who'd gone through the same thing.

Confusing? Probably.

But yes.

Ahaha, this is a random submission. I usually only lurk in Avatar nowadays.
