Little moments…
Like when it's Naruto's turn to cook but Sakura puts on an apron [even though they swore not to help him] and waves him away. He leans against the counter as she cooks until she goes past him and then he pounces, arms around her waist and dragging her to him until they're nestled together. She laughs, blushing slightly, and tries to move but he grips tighter and finally she stops.
His hands go from her waist to her face and he strokes her cheek softly before pecking her forehead and releasing her. She stands, dazed, as he brushes by and finishes cooking. From the doorway, Sasuke allows a small smile to cross his face.
Or when Sakura is folding clothes as Naruto puts them up and she's the one talking nonstop, yammering about how the piles never seem to get any smaller. And Naruto says nothing, even when they are all done. Instead he scoops her up as she begins to giggle and places her on the nearest flat surface and he kisses her hard and fast until she's breathless and he pulls away and her fingers are in his hair and her forehead is against his. And he smiles that crooked smile. Sakura, you talk too much. He says, and she lazily slaps his back, unable to keep the fond smile away. And Sasuke watches with hard eyes, and remembers why he does what he does.
When Naruto is pulling weeds and has long abandoned his shirt as sweat rolls off the slightly muscular back. He sits back and glares at the sun as his mouth moves in obvious curses, wiping his face and sighing.
But then there's a drink in front of him and a pale hand gripping it and he takes it with a smile that's almost answered.
And neither of them says a word when he sits down as well as helps, but Sakura pauses from where she's coming up the secluded walk and basks in the moment of familiarity.
When Sakura wakes up unexpectedly and look beside her and she can't help but smile. They may not show it when they're awake but they love each other the way they love her and she sees it now, in the way there are curled together with soft smiles. She curls around Naruto and pulls Sasuke's arm over her and she goes back to sleep.
When Sasuke comes home after one of those days and Sakura doesn't know what to do besides heal him. But then Naruto comes home and takes one look at him and shoves him against the wall and it's all teeth and bruises and claws while Sakura watches because she isn't a part of this. And she's alright with that.
It's moments like that; Sasuke thinks as moonlight streams through the open window and turns even Naruto's tan skin pale. Moments like that when I feel like my life hasn't been a waste. When I feel that they know me as well as I know myself.
The thoughts would continue but, like a clock, Naruto wakes up and frowns. You're going to get wrinkles. He says, and Sasuke smiles and allows himself to be pulled from the wall and back into bed.
Because it's little moments like that which convince him he's doing the right thing by trusting them; loving them.
