These days I always find myself at dozens of new schools, which is what happens when your old one get buried underneath fifty feet of rubble, and today was yet another 'first day',
It was turning out to be the same as the rest, one I only spent three hours in before it was time to run to the next one, and was not getting much better.
(filled with saying your name ten million times and watching others be so freaking normal)
And this new school was different than the rest because teeming with school spirit (which so many others massively lack) and nothing else but damn football.
(it was fall in Dillon the worst time in the world for some and for others it was their life)
"It's Dawn, right?"
I was not expecting very much when I turned around, he was not the first to come up to me with my name magically appearing on their tongues, but then I got an eye full and loved every bit of it.
(it did not even matter that it was clear that is head was filled with girls and football)
"I see people talk quite a bit at this school, and you are?"
And like magic that hidden smile of mine, the one that has been gone since I watched my home town crash into the ground (with Spike and all), came out just for him.
"Well, it's a small town, missy, everyone knows everything. I'm Tim Riggins, it's nice to meet you, Summers."
I kept an eye on him, making sure this cutie doesn't sprout fangs and want me for dinner, and found out that he was not just pleasing to the eye but had a sweetness to him (hidden beneath the smirk).
"It's nice to meet you too, Tim. Are you the official welcome committee to Dillon?"
It had been forever since I found a normal guy, back home it was a fifty-fifty chance that he was not evil, and I was not about to pass that up.
"Only for you, Summers, all the others can find the gas station by themselves, shall we?"
He put his arm out for me, the first real welcome I had gotten the whole day, and I didn't hesitative to take it.
