Disclaimer: I do not own Hetalia

Based off of something I read that said Spain wanted both Italies to own to be a happy little trio.

Spain's Dilemma

Spain was at another World Meeting. Romano was next to him, per their seating arrangement. On his other side was Belgium. At the head of the table sat Germany and next to him Italy.

Everyone assumed that he had a crush on his former charge like England had for America and France had for um…. what country did France lose to England again?

It didn't matter, Spain didn't have the energy to stay on that small detail. He felt like he was rambling enough already.

But actually no matter how many times he'd denied it, Romano was the one with the crush. You are probably telling yourself, ok you know Romano likes you Spain, so go date him you idiot. It's what you both want.

But that's just it.

Spain was a nice guy. The sun was always shining, brightening up his country, and making him smile. So he rarely had bad days. He made others around him happy too, mostly Romano, even though he'd never say it out loud. He never felt that way about the Italian nation. Now that didn't mean he didn't care about him. Romano was his little tomate after all.

He knew of Romano's rough upbringing, being in Italy's shadow, so he vowed to protect him and give him the attention he deserved.

But after familial ties were broken, Spain was not looking for anything more. Everyone called him an idiot for not picking up on Romano's hints of affection. Which involved intense blushing, yelling, cursing, and physically rejecting his physical affection. Typical Romano as a colony right?

Now you're probably saying "C'mon Spain, isn't it obvious."

Well to be fair the only other Tsundere, as Japan later explained to him, he came into contact with was England. And England hated his guts; he held a little resentment towards the English nation too. Spain would not forget his armada.

But he did pick up on them in recent years, he just chose to be blissfully unaware. Give him some more credit, he's not America.

Spain looked at Italy across the World Meeting conference table, dozing away. China was a the podium giving his presentation, he wasn't really interested in that.

He felt guilty for wanting Italy over Romano when he'd first gotten him. But he knew better now, he wouldn't have traded the memories he made with Romano for anything.

But that didn't stop him from crushing on Italy.

He wanted to say something a long time ago. He was torn between not wanting to hurt Romano's feelings, and Germany's feelings. Yes he knew about Germany proposing to Italy on Valentine's day. He was so scared that Italy would return Germany's feelings then.

Just look at those glistening pecs, he could not compete.

France did say he was a shoe in for best ass but was that what Italy went for?

Anyway, Germany was the total package, and they'd spent a fair amount of time together.

But that was a long time ago. Things were different now.

"Hey tomato bastard! You sick or something? If so get away from me now, I don't want your germs." Romano furrowed his eyebrows and frowned at him.

He hadn't said a word to him all meeting.

"Oh no Romano I'm not sick. But it's nice that you care about me, Gracias." Spain smiled, pinching his cheek.

Romano smacked his hand away. "You dumb bastard, I don't want your germs that's why I asked." Romano went back to ignoring him, to pay attention to the meeting. Romano was lazy, but he knew Italy wasn't paying attention and someone had to report to their boss.

Spain decided that today was the day he'd throw caution to the wind. He'd take the first step, and really what was the harm?

They weren't in the middle of a major war or anything.

The meeting ended, Germany said they'd meet next month in France to continue with the second half of their presentations. The nations started quickly filing out of the conference room.

Germany yelled at Italy to wake up. Italy woke up yawning before holding onto Germany's arm. Japan appeared beside them and the three were on their way out.

"Ready to go tomato bastard?" Romano was at his side.

Spain looked at him, his time to catch Italy slim. "Lo Siento Romano. You go ahead, I have something to do."

He broke away from the Southern Italian nation and sprinted towards the former Axis powers.

"¡Espere!" He yelled, causing them all to stop and look back at him. Italy smiled his warm smile.

"Can I speak with you Italy?"

Germany looked like he wanted to protest but Italy beat him to it. "Sure! You guys won't mind going ahead right?"

"Hey fratello, Spain didn't wanna walk me home so–" Romano stopped upon seeing him with his brother. "Oh so you wanted to talk to my idiot brother! You could've still walked me home ya dumb tomato bastard!"

"Romano I–"

"Excuse me South Italy, would you like us to walk you home?" Japan spoke up then.

"Why would I wanna walk home with you and the potato bastard? I hate you both!" Japan sighed before grabbing Romano's arm.

"Hey, who said you could touch me bastard?" Romano yelled, trying to get out of Japan's grasp.

"Come South Italy." Japan started dragging Romano away. German stood in shock.

"Japan what are you doing to fratello?" Italy waved his arms in a panic.

Spain went forward to try and help but Japan raised his hand.

"He will get home safely." Japan locked eyes with him, completely ignoring both Italy's cries.

Japan walked out with a fussing Romano and a stunned German in his wake.

"Ah well Romano isn't in any real danger; Japan wouldn't hurt him. I'm just so used to him being around you." Italy said.

"Sí." Spain nodded, unsure what that stunt was about but thankful he could talk to Italy anyway.

"So what did you want to talk to me about?" Italy asked him.

"Um would you want to go out to eat?" He asked.

Italy tilted his head to the side. "Just us?" He asked.

"U-Uh yeah, it's kind of ridiculous huh?"

"No, no it's not. I would love to. I actually wanted to ask you but I didn't want to upset fratello."

Spain smiles, Italy thought the same as everyone else.

"Is Germany going to be ok with it?"

Italy gasps at his question before smiling too.

"Who cares what they think."

A/N: A quick one shot I thought of while thinking that Spain x Italy is kind of interesting and the more Crackier of the ship that breaks up GerIta and Spamano: Germano. Japan knows all.
