If Hearts Were Unbreakable

What would it take to make you see that I'm alive

(he wanted to tell her where he stood)

...

From an outsider's point of view, the green-haired young man had it all, the perfect life. He didn't need to worry about anything; he was rich, he was famous, and everyone loved him. So, Drew Hayden was what people considered "lucky."

In reality, he didn't have it all.

He didn't have the freedom everybody else had; he was almost always chased by his fangirls and the spotlight made it hard for him to do anything that he wanted. He didn't have that many friends; he had acquaintances but real friends were few and far between. He didn't have the love of the one person he loved the most; she loved him but not in the way he would have wanted.

So, Drew Hayden considered himself "unlucky."

And "jealous."

Because Drew Hayden, the person who was supposed to have it all, was jealous of a lot of things.

He was jealous of the people that could walk out their front door without getting mobbed. He was jealous of the people that had friends they could rely on. And he was jealous of the people that she, May Maple, loved.

And if people bothered to connect those traits together, they would find that Drew was particularly jealous of a raven-haired trainer from Pallet Town named Ash Ketchum.

Because Ash Ketchum could walk out his front door — or any door, really — without getting mobbed. Because Ash Ketchum had real, genuine friends. Because Ash Ketchum was the one May loved.

Because Ash Ketchum had everything Drew wanted.

It made Drew wish he was invisible, someone that didn't have to deal with the pressures of being in the spotlight.

Because, maybe he could be normal, someone who didn't get mobbed by fangirls. Maybe he could be a social butterfly, someone who had a lot of genuine friends. Maybe he could be her boyfriend, someone who didn't need pine over her from the shadows because he already had her.

But he already was invisible, wasn't he?

...

(he was just another face in the crowd)
