Malini watched the landscape from her perch upon a great mountain on the Spine of the World. Her great indigo wings glimmered in the bright mountain sunlight. She jumped off the edge of her cave and dove down toward the abyss below her. Before she reached the ground, her wings opened and she flew across the open chasm. It is time, she thought; time to find the one they call Avani.

I flew toward Far Madding, sensing her become closer every minute. My wings quivered from the long flight. I had flown thousands of miles in a period of a couple of days without rest, but I felt the urge to be with her. To feel her. I need this girl. This is the curse of the Dragon; to be conquered by humans. Now we are all but extinct. I know of only one other. My cousin who lives on an island just off the Fingers of the Dragon with his master; they had decided to keep away from others, to protect themselves. I don't blame them. Maybe I'll do the same when I find my human.

As I crossed into the stedding that is Far Madding, I felt my power dwindle to all but a trickle. Because we get our power from the True Source, the Stedding affects us. From the time of our birth, we are connected to the Power. We constantly have the Source flowing through us. We do not need to reach the source because it is constantly there. We are a well in itself for the Power, although none but ourselves and our master can touch this source of the power. This is one way Dragons are different from the ones called Aes Sedai. We also have no separation of the power. Male and female dragons all touch the same power. Saidin and Saidar are one in the same for us. The taint does not touch us. You could say we have our own power, but none are entirely sure. This knowledge was lost in the Breaking. This and along with almost all of our kind. As the male Aes Sedai went, we went. Our homes and Masters were destroyed by the male Aes Sedai, killing us.

I approached the home of my soon to be master and was suddenly a storm of arrows shot at my body. I wove a flow of air and sent them flying back toward the one from which they came. That out to have taught them, but no. Another group of arrows came at my body. Foolish humans. This time I threw a ball of fire their way, killing five men. They paused a moment and I used this time to swoop behind Avani's home. I settled on the ground and looked into a window. There she was. A young girl, sixteen years old, dark hair, deep blue eyes. I called to her with my mind. Avani come here. You are master. I will live for you and die for you. I am your dragon.

………………………………………………………………………………………………

"Who said that?" I screamed. I looked out the window and a wise dark blue eye, the same size as the window, stared at me. I ran to the back of the kitchen trying to keep as much distance as possible between the unknown beast and me. I was terrified. I had never seen such a creature. It responded to me unmoving. It is a dragon named Malini. I have come for you. You are my master. Do not try to run, wherever you are I will find you. We are connected. "Why me? Why now?" I asked Malini. You were my master since birth. I have come to find you now because we a dragon must wait until thair masters sixteenth birthday to find them. "Are you a product of the one power?" Before Malini could respond, an arrow shot at her and dug itself into her deep shoulder hide. She screamed a rattling cry that echoed through the town. Her mouth opened exposing hundreds of rasor sharp teeth. We must go now! Malini shouted. "But, oh, alright." I said running outside to Malini. An invisible hand suddenly grabbed me and I was flung onto the back of Malini and with a flap her wings we were in the air and flying away from Far Madding.
