Disclaimer: I do not own Jonny Quest or related characters.
A/N: I just realized I've been doing a lot of fics with Race, Estella, and young Jessie. I really need to start writing more stories with Benton and the boys. Eh, maybe next time.
"No. No nap!" Jessie cried as she struggled to get away from her mother.
Estella sighed, "Yes, Jessie. You need to take a nap now." Otherwise she'd fall asleep some time later and then wouldn't want to go to bed on time.
"No!" The four-year-old shrieked. "No nap!"
"Shh." Estella hissed suddenly, startling Jessie enough to make the child freeze. "Jessie, your father is just down the hall sleeping. We don't want to wake him up."
"Daddy's home?" Jessie asked, her emerald eyes lighting up.
"Yes. Daddy came home late last night." Estella sighed as she just now remembered she was going to keep that detail secret until Race got up. He would be so angry if someone woke him up right now - even if that someone was his four-year-old daughter. "He was very tired Jessie, and he still is. We need him sleep. And you need to take a nap."
"Don't wanna." The girl mumbled, though she did lay down and stop struggling. Estella tucked the blanket around her before leaning down to kiss her forehead.
As she left the room, Estella really hoped Jessie was going to stay put and take a nap.
It was two hours later when Estella went to check on Jessie. She found the girl's room empty. "Oh no." She murmured. She turned and continued down the hall to the master bedroom. As expected, the door was ajar. Going inside, Estella was relieved to see Race was still sleeping, almost exactly how she had left him that morning. The only thing that had changed was he had his arm wrapped around something curled up against his chest.
Estella wasn't surprised to find that 'something' was Jessie. The four-year-old was also asleep, one of her hands holding on to the collar of his shirt - just like she used to do when she was really little and was afraid her father would leave again while she was asleep. Smiling, Estella left the room before she accidentally woke either of them.
