So I was watching the Tudors, episode 2.09. You know the scene where Anne is begging Henry to give her a second chance? Well I was inspired by that scene so decided to write a little something about my version of it. Enjoy!

Summary: One shot, set during 2.09, when Anne is begging Henry for a second chance. My version of what happened.

A Man Who Cannot Truly Love…

Anne Boleyn ascended the stairs, the ends of her beautiful dress sweeping across the dirty ground. Her daughter was sitting on her hip, her little arms wrapped around her mother's neck. Anne stepped from the stone steps onto the dirt path, coming face to face with the man she had been looking for.

"Henry," she said. But the second he saw her, he turned to flee. "Please," she followed him, having to jog to keep up with his increasing speed. "Henry, please! For the love you bear our child, for the love of Elizabeth, have mercy!"

"You lied to me! You've always lied to me!" He said bitterly, not turning around.

"No!"

And finally he did turn to face her, pointing an accusing finger at her. She could see anger and hate in his eyes, but she was taken aback to also see betrayal and…hurt? "You were not a virgin when you married me! You were not what you seemed!" He looked her up and down with disgust. "Your father and brother arranged everything."

"No! I loved you!" She hurried to cut in front of him as he came to the front of some stone steps. "I loved you," she repeated, whispering quietly and she got closer to him. "And I love you still." She had hold of his shirt, silently pleading with him to hear her out. "Please, after everything we've been to each other, after everything we were. Please."

He looked at her for a moment, before trying to push past her. She quickly turned away, walking up the steps, still holding Elizabeth to close to her. But then she turned back to him, beseeching him. "One more chance, one more." He glared at her menacingly. He seemed to look at the little red head in Anne's arms, whose scared little face hardly knew what was going on. He then pushed past Anne once again, not allowing himself to be stopped by her this time.

"Henry! Your Majesty!" She called after him desperately. "Your Majesty, I beseech you!" She clutched Elizabeth to her tightly. She knew it was over. But in the midst of her defeat, she suddenly felt a wave of courage and hope. Always the bold woman who spoke her mind, she refused to let him get away without her saying what she wanted to say. "You were right!" She yelled.

Henry's retreating figure froze. Eventually he turned around. Perhaps he thought this was her confession to all the wrong she was accused of? She walked up to him quickly. "Our marriage was arranged by my father. I did not want to marry you; perhaps all would be better if I hadn't. I knew your love was conditional. You loved Catherine until she couldn't give you a son. You loved me until I failed to give you a son. And you will love Jane Seymour, until she doesn't give you a son as well. And perhaps she does bear you a son; then you will love her for that and for that only. You are incapable of true love, Henry."

"How dare you!" He began.

"Very well. Send me away, lock me in the tower, kill me! It will not keep the truth from my words. For a man who cannot truly love another is not a man at all."

Not much, but I thought it would be a little fun if she called him out a bit haha.
