A/N: Finally, I managed to write something! This multichapter story is a sequel to Colors of the Rainbow, and it will have one chapter for each month of the year. Thanks to makristina for betaing! All mistakes are a result of post-beta additions. Chapter one - January
Well, I hope you'll enjoy the story! This first chapter is a bit drama-ish, but the rest won't be. It will be nice and fluffy
"Stupid hormones," she muttered, though she knew they weren't to blame. She'd hoped that the thirty-minute walk would help clear her head, and it had, on some points.
After trying to get the key into her lock, unsuccessfully, she took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. Her eighth try was finally successful, and she turned the key to open the door.
"Hey."
She recognized the voice that had greeted her every day when she got home the last two years, but something was different. Somehow she just knew he knew she'd walked home.
"Hey," she answered, trying to not let her voice tremble.
But of course Danny Messer noticed, and he was by her side in two seconds. She felt his arms snake around her, as a protective shield, and she buried her face in his chest. She couldn't help but wonder if this would be the last time she could do this. What would he say when he heard the news? Somewhere in her rational mind she knew that of course, he would not be mad, it was not even her fault. It was just hard to feel that in her heart, too.
"What's wrong?" Danny asked gently when he felt her silent tears through his T-shirt. Lindsay just shook her head.
"I lost it."
She felt Danny tense. "Lost what?" he asked.
A sob escaped Lindsay's throat. "The baby," she whispered, before letting herself go and cry openly.
Danny closed his eyes and pulled Lindsay closer to his body. They had wanted a baby since they had gotten married, but hadn't been successful. When they had found out that Lindsay was pregnant ten weeks ago, they had been extremely happy, their wish had been granted.
They both knew these things could happen in the beginning of a pregnancy, the doctor had informed them of those things. But that didn't make the pain go away.
"Say something, Danny," Lindsay said softly, when she had calmed down enough to stop crying.
"I don't know what to say," Danny answered, pressing a kiss to her head. "Are you okay?"
She nodded. "I am. I will be. I mean, it wasn't our last chance, we can have another baby, in time…"
"Of course," Danny agreed with her. Lindsay pulled away to look him in the eye.
"You're not… mad at me, right?"
"What?" Danny asked, confused. "Why would I be mad at you? This is not your fault, and you know that."
"Yeah, but… We both wanted this baby, and I thought that maybe you would just…"
He interrupted her. "No, I'm not mad at you, Lindsay, and I don't blame you. And you shouldn't blame yourself either. We will have our baby, maybe not next week, or next month, but we will. And you'll make a great mom."
Tears welled up in Lindsay's eyes again. "And you'll be a great dad," she told him, and she meant it.
