T.D.K- So is everyone ready for this rewrite?! Cause I totally am! A few things are different from the old fic. For one thing, this world is going to be filled with all sorts of supernatural things. Secondly, Atem isn't a vampire anymore. As for what species he is, I'm not telling. I want to see what you all think.
With that said, away we go!
Slowly, ever so slowly, the male being stalked his beautiful human. Blood red eyes glimmered in the dim light of the alley as he watched his human pass by. They closed in pleasure as the mortal's scent hit his nose. His lion tail, an appendage of caramel colored fur ending in a tuft of mahogany red fur, shivered with his delight. Oh, this mortal was most certainly his. He moved swiftly, dark wings unfolding, and lifting him to the roof tops. He followed above the human, watching with protective slit eyes. His moment would come, and when it did, he would make off with his predestined mate.
He sighed softly as his mortal paused in the light of a street lamp. Rare blue eyes, eyes that were a true royal violet, gazed around him warily. His hair was a gravity defying mass of spikes, defined not by shape but by color. The human's mane was black, with blond bangs, and edged in a soft dark red. His skin was the healthy tan of his Japanese heritage, his unusually large eyes holding the Asiatic slant. He was clothed in a simple pair of old faded jeans and dark orange t-shirt. Once again, the male being caught his scent. It floated airily to him, surrounding him in the musk of incense and cedar.
"Oh, my petite human! You do not belong in the world you know! You belong to the world of the supernatural; to me. Please, my mate, allow me to capture you soon. I have waited ever so long." The being murmured softly in a deep soothing baritone. The human's head snapped up, but he couldn't see anything outside of the street light's illuminated circle. He took a deep calming breath and chanted softly under his breath.
Up above, the being hissed. He couldn't whisk his mate away when he was chanting prayers under his breath! The human heard the hiss, knowing what being made that noise. It was a particular deep hiss, not unlike the growl of a lion. His eyes widened as the being took off, wings stretching to fullness as it came near the light. It landed before him in the darkness, eyes glowing. He stuttered the words to his prayers, but kept going.
The being stepped into the light, and he knew without doubt that the being was an Incubus. They looked strikingly similar, but would never be mistaken for each other. The Incubus had blond bangs and highlights, the bulk of his hair a deep mahogany red, like the tuft of fur on the end of his lion tail. His eyes were a mesmerizing red, the color similar to dried blood. Its skin was darkly tanned, denoting his Middle Eastern/Northern African heritage. Tarnished gold bracers were clasped at its wrists and biceps, a solid choker around its neck. Black pants clung to the demon's long, lithe legs. The remains of a white blouse hung off the Incubus' torso and shoulders.
It fell to its knees before him, eyes never leaving his. Rough hands, with long unkempt nails, reached for him. Black tar like tears left the being's eyes, as his posture begged for the human to come to him. He stepped back. The hands fell to its side, as the Incubus whimpered. What was he doing wrong?! Couldn't his human feel this sense of completion?
"Mate, why do you deny me?" His mortal paused, before his violet eyes rolled into the back of his head. The Incubus rushed forward. He lifted his unconscious human into his arms. His wings unfurled once more as he took off for his den. The demon could figure out why his mortal had denied him later, after he had the other safely tucked away in his den.
Yugi blinked his eyes, slowly coming into awareness. Warm breath fanned across his neck from something laying on him. He stiffened as his memories came back. An Incubus thought he was his predestined mate! He glanced back to the demon, somehow at peace in the being's arms. Maybe he was the other's mate. The other male cuddled closer to him, murmuring softly. He looked up to the ceiling, eyes trailing across the cracks in the old building. The tang of sea salt in the air told the human he was close to the sea, but he wasn't at the docks.
As he looked around, he noticed trailing vine plants climbing up the walls. Buds of varying colors burst to life in different stages. A motley collection of carpet samples covered the floor around them like a puzzle. Soft cashmere surrounded them and created a nest of soft cloth and plush pillows. Well, at least the Incubus knew how to decorate a comfortable den. He settled back, before sliding his eyes down to the incubus.
His cheeks reddened as he realized he'd fainted from the shock of seeing the incubus. Yugi had never seen a supernatural being before, but they were talked about. Most could pass as humans, and kept their true forms secret. The ones that couldn't stalked the night hours. It was why all the governments had placed curfews in their cities. Unfortunately, Yugi had disregarded that and snuck out to join his friends at a party. He'd lost them in the crowd, running for it not long after.
Vampires had crashed, rouges from the way their leader had talked, and wanted dinner. After a few blocks, he had managed to lose them. It would be his luck that he met the incubus a block later. Now that he thought about it, he'd rather have the incubus catch him than a vampire. More so if said demon believed he was its mate. From what he remembered in school, an incubus would never harm their mate. Incubae, unlike succubae, mated for life with only one. They were rare too, and only a descendant of their king, Asmodeus, could bear an incubus.
Yugi stiffened, relaxed, and then snapped his eyes closed. Beside him, the incubus stirred. He smiled as he watched his mate sleep. The demon traced the features of his face, chuckling when his human wrinkled his nose. He sighed. Lithe legs stretched and lifted their owner up. He walked over to the large cloth covering the wall on his side of the nest. The demon pulled it aside, revealing a large window. The glass let the late morning light filter in. His human groaned and turned away from the light. The other male bolted up, turning wary violet eyes to him.
"Good Morn, my mate. Was the nest comfortable? Did you sleep well?"
"Yeah, warm too. I slept great. Um, could you come here? I don't know a lot about Incubae. I'm Yugi, by the way. What's your name?" The incubus smiled, rejoining his mate. He settled flush against the other's side, fingers intertwined, and purred. "That's cool."
"My mother named me Atem. …Yugi, why did you not come into my arms last night? Why did you deny me last night?"
"I'm sorry. This is all really new to me. I didn't mean to deny you, honest! I just don't know a lot. We just got started on studying Incubae and Succubae in school."
"You are forgiven, Dear Heart." Atem stood, and opened the window. He held out a hand to Yugi, who stared at it stupidly. "Allow me to take you home, Yugi." The human took the demon's hand. "Put your arms around my neck, and hang on tightly." The young man did as told, gasping as the incubus leapt from the window. His wings snapped out, lifting them into the air. Atem smiled as Yugi laughed in his arms. He knew then that his human would enjoy leisure flights. He could see their life together. He could see the night flights they'd take together, the intimate times alone, and the forming of their life bond. His eyes closed as he buried his face into Yugi's hair. He couldn't lose this.
Suguroku 'Solomon' Moutu glanced at his grandson and the supernatural being he towed into the game shop behind him. From the tail alone he knew the being was an incubus, and a powerful one at that. As much as the older human wanted to lecture the teen about sneaking out after curfew, it would be a moot point with the other being around. He sighed one of his put upon sighs. At least Yugi had the chagrin to look chastised, somewhat.
"Explain, and make it good." The older Moutu spoke. Slit red eyes glanced at him curiously, taking stock of him. A silvery eyebrow rose at the look from the Incubus. "Please tell me you have intentions of claiming my grandson as your mate. Otherwise, you will march your ass back out that door." The blood eyes hardened and blazed with hellfire as hands ending in bleached white talons grasped the younger Moutu to the demon. He hissed at the older human, tail twitching animatedly behind him. Suguroku nodded.
"O.K. Now that Grandpa's pissing contest is over, can you please loosen your grip? Atem, you're hurting me." The incubus quickly deflated, crouching submissively as he nuzzled Yugi's side. The teen shushed his whimpers of distress and ignored his grandfather until Atem calmed. Violet eyes sent a none too happy look to the older male. "It's alright. You didn't hurt me on purpose, and I'm fine. That was not an alright thing to do, Grandpa! I'm going upstairs, to see Momma. Atem is coming with me."
With that, the teen encouraged the demon to stand and led him through one of the doors at the back of the shop. Atem stiffened at his side at Suguroku's parting shot. Yugi tugged gently, but incessantly. The pair walked into a cozy living room. The room was filled with pictures of various people, most of them appeared to be relatives or family friends. The furniture was worn, but still looked ever so comfortable. The demon liked it, reminded of his mother's rooms so long ago. He smiled softly. Yugi beamed when he saw it.
"Momma, I'm home! I'm so sorry for making you worry!" Yugi turned into the kitchen, finding his mother at the sink. She carefully washed the dishes from earlier and the night before with careful precision. She paused at the sound of her son's voice. A smile was plastered to her full pouty lips as she turned. The teen released his hold on the demon to dry the still dripping hands. When they were dry, he sunk into his mother's loving hold. She wrapped her arms around him tightly. Her vividly blue eyes, a somehow natural mix of blue and violet, glanced up to the Incubus.
"Yugi?" She asked in a soft low voice. To Atem, the voice sounded like a hiss. He knew what the woman was, surprised his mate had never realized his mother was a Lamia. Yugi smiled as he stepped out of her arms and toward the Incubus. Her eyes flashed silver as she watched her young take the other being's hands.
"Momma, this is Atem. He thinks I'm his mate, and I want to give him a chance. What do you think?" The Lamia stepped toward him. He had long been taught it was disrespectful to look away when one of the Greek witches were looking at you. She hummed softly. Another moment of not looking away induced the Lamia to nod approvingly. "She likes you." Yugi whispered to him softly. "Would you like to stay and have some food? I'm sure Momma and I can fix something to eat really quick."
"I am sorry, Dearest Heart, but I must return to my den. I am always close by to ensure your safety. It was an honor to meet you, Moutu-Dono." Yugi's mother smiled and nodded. "I am not as resourceful at hiding my appendages as some of my race are, and we are rather territorial."
"It's alright. Maybe next time you can stay?"
"Mayhap or mayhap by the next time I come over, it is to stay permanently."
T.D.K- So what do you think? I know Incubus might be a little over done, but there's actually a lot of potential. I couldn't find a lot on how to deal with one or any consistency with how they look. Yugi's mom is a Lamia witch. Lamias are female, with scaled skin, talons, and wings. I picked them up from a book series I once read. They'll be different here from the book.
Personally, I love this version a lot better than the old. I'm super excited to flesh this out and see how it goes. Now, updates for this might be sporadic at best. I don't have much written and another fic that's my main project at the moment. Please let me know how you like this!
