Solitude.
To
George Weasley, it was a word that made his heart break. When his
brother, Fred, once walked the earth with him - the inseperable twins
- he was never alone. George would often find himself turning, with a
grin that matched his twin's last, to speak to his brother only to
meet an empty space, and a sickly sinking feeling that reminded him
of his twin's absence.
Soltitude came with silence, for even when
conversation was not needed and neither brother spoke, George would
still hear Fred's heart, his breathing, and his fidgeting. Now,
however, each moment on his own was as silent as the grave that held
his sibling.
George was undeniably alone, and it felt so wrong, so
abnormal; like when he lost his ear, only worse. Now it was like a
piece of his heart was missing, as though he and his brother shared
an existence. Even Molly, their mother, sometimes forgot herself and
called him Fred, or referred to him as 'You two' when scolding him.
Then, in a horrifying second, she would remember and burst into
tears.
The dinner table was quiet without Fred, because George
was quiet without Fred. The chair opposite the remaining twin was
covered in a thin layer of dust, as though waiting for its previous
occupant to return. No-one sat in it, not even guests, and eventually
it would be forgotten.
It was the same with Fred's side of their
bedroom; his unmade bed and clothes strewn about the floor covered in
a small amount of dust as not even Molly had the heart to clear it
away. Cleaning Fred's side of the room, would be like admitting he no
longer existed, and she just couldn't do that. Not yet.
George
would never forget. He would never forget the death eater that
murdered his brother, his best friend. He would never forget his
twin's face - still grinning as the curse knocked the life out of
him. It was for that reason that George wouldn't look in the mirror;
it was like seeing Fred again, and he couldn't bear it.
More
importantly, however, George would never forget his brother, his
twin. He would never forget Fred Weasley.
