A/N: It's been a long time since I actually published anything (regretfully; I've been dying to finish my current projects) so I thought I'd put something here in case anyone wants to read it. For some reason it won't let me break it into stanzas as I had in the original document, but no matter. I doubt it's good poetry, just something I wrote about five years ago. Feel free to leave me a review, I'd love feedback as I'm not too confident with poetry and would love some advice on how to be better.

Cheers!

Emerald Immortal

by Victoria Viridian

Severus remembered the first day he talked to Lily

Told her that she was magical.

He cherished all time away from his home life

Far from the dark, cruel explosions.

School was upon them, a new beginning

He found her on the train alone.

He had met those boys he could never forget that day

The bane of his existence;

The Leader was the most dreadful, merciless torturer

Who yearned for the only thing Severus wanted.

She was a vivid amber fire, her green eyes a beacon of warmth to all those she knew

Remedying all the anguish he had ever felt.

But he lost her when the forbidden word slipped from his foul tongue,

Derogatory.

The humiliation of years' suffering finally accumulated

All from the relentless agony his caused by his foes,

The well-liked boys,

Until he screeched like a bat at the girl who came to his aid

Slicing their friendship like a knife.

He graduated with exceptional grades, but Lily was absent.

She married that man,

The Leader of his torturers.

Severus joined the darkest wizard, unknowingly assisting in her murder;

She died for her only son.

Severus deemed himself to eternal suffering, like a prisoner

Chained to his transgressions.

The pain chased him, never resting.

It followed him as he left his dark master, receiving a job at his old school,

A constant vestige of what he did arrived there

Years later as his enemy's living son; but also Lily's son,

The unbearable result of their union.

Her green eyes lived on, glistening in the boy's face;

His father's face. Severus' hatred

For the Leader now fell upon the boy;

But he kept the boy safe from The Dark Lord

Who wished to kill him; did all in his power

To keep Lily's intentions alive

When she herself could no longer be.

He had wished never to see the fatal scarlet eyes of his old master again.

Staring into them, he realized:

He was to be brutally killed by this man, just as Lily was.

He lay dying, gasping;

A book never opened... and then Lily's son was there,

Standing over Severus as his father always had.

Slowly, magically extracting his memories of her, he gave them to her son,

So he could know the truth at last

Then he pulled the boy close, holding his gaze, Severus' last sight.

Lily's eyes.
