Prolouge

"You're going to be late again!"

"Sorry mother, I can't seem to find my sheath anywhere!" I replied.

"It's over here! Now get going, we can't have you late for the first day with the prince!"

Merlin was a boy, and a small one at that. His father died in battle years ago, and was left with just his mother. He could never become a knight because he was just too small. He has black hair and green eyes. He lived in the small village of Elador. He could do strange things with his mind, uncanny things. He could stop and move an object using his brain. He didn't understand his powers but he knew two things. It was magic. And it was punishable by death.

Uther Pendragon was the king of Camelot. He was doing his best to be a wise, just ruler of the mighty land. He did a lot of good things, but the bad things outweighed the good things. He has had dark dealing with magic in the past. It killed his wife, his brother, and cost him half an army. He knew a lot about the subject, and knew it couldn't be trusted. So he did the only thing to battle it. He waged a war on magic. All magic was banned and punishable be death. If anyone was caught doing magic or even was thought to practice the craft they were killed. This time was called the great purge. He hunted all wizards and witches, and burned all sacred books. He took the artifacts of the noble art and locked them up in the vaults beneath which the castle stood. He hunted the druids of the forest, and killed them all. Very few survived.

Uther was fair in his own mind, he just wanted to prevent more death and casualty from magic. Like anything, not all magicians are bad. But he thought differently. He thought magic corrupted your soul until you could not think, much less behave. Little did he know how much trouble the Great Purge would cause him.

Chapter 1.

Gaius

Merlin finally arrives at the great city of Camelot. It was a risky move to come to such a place, especially when the king lives right next to where he would be staying. Merlins' family was a friendly bunch, and had an especially close friend named Gaius (Guy-ers). Gaius, aged seventy seven, is the Court Physician of Camelot and has been for the last twenty-four years, since the birth of Arthur Pendragon. He has a great knowledge of sorcery and the legends associated with it, having studied and practised it for many years before the Great Purge.

"Merlin my boy, you've grown so much!" exclaimed Gaius

"I've missed you! How has life been serving under the king?" Replied Merlin.

"It has been a grand adventure, grand indeed!" Smiled Gaius.

"Here come to your chambers, I hope you will enjoy it."

The small room is decorated with some flowers by the windowsill, and a bed.

"I love it!" Merlin said contently

"Well good, could you possibly fetch me something from the lower town? I need a few herbs.."

As Merlin walks down the street, he spots a boy tormenting a smaller boy. Merlin, being the person he is, decides to stop it.

" I think that's enough.." said Merlin

The boy turns around and the smaller boy runs off.

" Who do you think you are peasant? Do you know who you're talking to? I am PRINCE ARTHUR." Said the Prince.

Arthur pulls out his sword and starts to attack Merlin. As he proceeds, Merlin looks at a nearby bench, pulls it out, and trips the prince.
