Derekus knocked gently on the door to Prince Genesis' room. He heard a moan from inside. Concerned, he opened the door slightly to look inside. He saw the young prince laying in his bed with the white sheets twisted around his body and he trashed about. Derekus quickly ran to his lover's side and pulled him into his arms. Genesis, though still asleep, fought the grip. He mumbled incoherently, tears streaming down his face. Derekus knew that the prince was having another nightmare. He had had them ever since his mother had died of illness when he was young. Derekus gently shook his lover. "Genesis. Wake up."
The young man's eyes flew open as he awoke. The tears flowed freely down his face. Derekus held his closer and rocked him back and forth. Genesis sobbed, his face buried in lover's chest. He choked out, "It wasn't her this time."
"What?" Derekus asked, confused. The prince raised his head, revealing glistening golden eyes.
"Its usually my mother who dies in my dreams. But it wasn't this time." he told the other man, shakily. Derekus gingerly wiped the tears from his face.
"Who was it?" he asked. The prince's lip trembled.
"It was you. You died in my dream." he began to sob again. Derekus was silent for a moment but then quickly took his love's face in his hands.
"Look at me. I am right here, alive. And I am not going anywhere. I promise." he quickly, yet passionately pressed his lips to Genesis'. When they broke apart, he whispered, "I love you, Genesis."
"And I love you, Derekus." the young man whispered back. Derekus wrapped the prince back into his blankets and laid beside him as he fell back asleep. The Magi leader stayed awake for a little while longer, just watching his love sleep. But it wasn't before long until he too slipped into a deep slumber.
