Quidditch Championship of 1985
The two competitors faced each other menacingly. One, a young ebullient child at only seventeen, was Charlie Weasley. The other, a tired, worn, experienced, tempered player at 45, was Rasi Conel. A man who had been through much in life, he was by far the favorite because of his experience. Rasi was the only person left alive in his family and he was all he knew, so his accomplishments were never enough. He had already won many awards for his ability, but this was the only award he had not won. The Individual Best Player of the Year. He was widely acclaimed but not happy with his lack of this award.
Charlie was in his first tournament, and just exuding enthusiasm. Rasi had already told the world, though, that this was his last tournament, and the whole crowd was there to see him play. One-on-one quidditch is the fastest-paced quidditch there is, so the stadium was packed. Charlie knew he must play hard to win, or else there was no chance. And fight he did. The young player gave it his all. He perfectly channeled his energy. Charlie won the Chaser component of the tournament easily, as that was his specialty. He outdid himself. Rasi seemed quietly sad at his loss, but was obviously gearing up for the Beater component of the competition.
Rasi hands-down won the Beater part, as his specialty was this. Rasi seemed best with a thing to channel his energy to, such as the bat that the beaters used. Charlie almost fell from the broom defending against a crazy bludger, but that is all part of the game. Next was the Keeper segment. Here was the star performance from Charlie. He made a world record at 17 of 20 shots blocked. Rasi only got 11, disheartened by the child's amazing victory. Now the award was Charlie's, almost guaranteed. Rasi seemed visibly upset. In the Seeker part, he did a noble job, but could not pull up his overall score enough. Charlie won. Amazing cheers erupted from the stands. Charlie laughed, cried, and shouted with joy as he accepted the trophy and thanked his parents and family publicly. Rasi left with a tear crawling down his face. Charlie was unable to comfort him in his euphoria, so Rasi left. The celebrating went on nearly a week in the Weasley household.
The river Thames was the next place Rasi went. He took a deep breath, put his wand down, and took a piece of paper and pencil out of his pocket. He wrote on it:
" I leave everything to charity. I have nothing more to live for, so I won't live. I can't deal with this defeat. I am not worthy of this earth. Goodbye."
The note was discovered along with his wand a week later. The verdict was "muggle-type suicide". No one ever saw Rasi ever again. The Weasleys were shocked and horrified. Charlie even said that he would give up his trophy to have the good man back. But the strange thing was, when the Ministry of Magic tried to levitate his body up out of the river, no matter where they tried, no body came up. Eventually, after 50 tries, they gave up.
