Hey, people, this is my first Girl Meets World FanFiction! I've been thinking about writing this for awhile & I really hope you guys like it!

Chapter One

It was cold. The December air blew around, nipping at everyone's noses and causing them to draw their coats closer to them.

May Clutterbucket sat on a bus bench, wondering if her bus was fixed yet.

She was alone and cold, with no money, but refused to go inside where she'd left her odd new friend with her guitar.

May had made her choice. She didn't know what she'd do in California now, maybe she'd just jump off the bus one day and start a new life in whatever state she was in. May liked to think that she'd be able to do that but she knew she wouldn't. Music hadn't been her only reason for going to Topanga Canyon.

May was lost in thought as person after person rushed past her, hurrying to get home and out of the cold.

"Hello, ma'am."

May looked up.

A young man, dressed completely in black and a cowboy hat smiled down at her. He held a guitar in his right hand.

May's heart began to beat quicker than normal.

"Hello," she replied.

"Why aren't you inside?" he asked.

"Why aren't you inside?" May answered.

He smiled again and sat down next to her on the bench. He set his guitar down carefully next to him. "What's your name?" he asked.

"May Clutterbucket," May replied.

"I'm Merlin Scoggins," Merlin told her.

May gave him a small smile. "I know," she admitted.

"Thats right, we spoke inside," Merlin remembered.

May nodded and turned her attention to the ground.

But that's not how I know you, she thought. You're a talented musician from Texas.

"So, why aren't you inside, May Clutterbucket?" Merlin asked again. "It's mighty cold out here."

"I'm waiting for my bus," May answered.

"I don't think there's any more buses at this hour," Merlin commented.

May ignored his comment. "Why aren't you inside?" she asked.

"I was going to my hotel room when I saw you," Merlin replied.

"Why didn't you keep going?" May asked and turned her attention to the street. "Everyone else did."

"My mama raised me to have manners," Merlin answered. "And you don't leave a girl out in the cold."

May's eyes met his for a moment and her heart skipped a beat before they went back to the ground.

"Especially not alone," Merlin continued. "And not in a big city."

May shrugged. "I can take care of myself," she told him.

Merlin smiled at her and shook his head. "I'm sure you can," he admitted.

May's heart skipped a beat again and she bit her lip, her eyes on the street.

I wonder if Nancy will believe me when I call to tell her about this, she thought.

May loved her younger sister Nancy more than anything, they told each other everything. They were four years apart but they were as close as could be.

"Maybe you can find your bus tomorrow," Merlin told her.

May shrugged.

"Where are you going?" Merlin asked.

"California," May replied.

"California," Merlin repeated thoughtfully.

"What are you doing here in New York?" May asked.

"I don't like to stay in one place for very long," Merlin answered.

May nodded and turned her attention back to the street.

"It's late," Merlin commented.

"You should go back to your hotel room," May told him.

"But I don't think it's right to leave you out here in the cold," Merlin responded.

"Well, what else can you do?" May answered.

"You could come to my hotel with me," Merlin replied.

May's heart began beating quickly and she blushed.

"I could get you a room," Merlin told her.

May's heart calmed down a bit but she knew her cheeks were still red. "That's alright," she answered. "I don't need you to get me a room."

"Then why haven't you already gotten yourself one?" Merlin asked and raised his eyebrows.

"Because I don't want to miss my bus," May told him.

"You can't stay out here all night," Merlin objected.

"Watch me!" May exclaimed and crossed her arms.

Merlin frowned at her.

May's heart was pounding so fast she thought he could hear it. She was usually a very calm person, but there was something about this stranger that couldn't help but get her riled up.

May refused to look away from him and even managed to glare a bit.

Merlin sighed and shook his head. "Wherever it is you're going, you must be very excited to go there," he commented.

I was, May thought as she glanced back in the direction of the Cafe Hey where she was already slightly regretting leaving her guitar with Rosie Mcgee.

"Topanga Canyon," May told him.

Merlin nodded. "I've heard of that place," he said.

May looked at the ground.

"Where's your guitar?" Merlin suddenly asked.

May shrugged.

Merlin frowned again.

May bit her lip and stared at the ground.

Please go away, she thought. Please don't ask any more questions about it.

"Please let me get you a room."

May looked up at him and sighed.

"And then if you miss your bus tomorrow, I'll buy you a new ticket to Topanga Canyon."

May didn't say anything and her gaze dropped to her lap.

Should I trust him? she wondered. I don't even know him.

May looked back at him.

Merlin stared back at her, his gaze never wavering.

May sighed. "You're not going to just leave me here, are you?" she asked.

Merlin shook his head. "No, ma'am, I'm not," he responded.

May stood up. "One night," she said. "I'll only let you pay for my stay for one night."

Merlin jumped to his feet.

"If I stay in New York City for any longer than that, you'll leave me be," May told him.

Merlin tipped his hat to her before reaching for his guitar. "I'll do whatever you like, m'am," he replied.

May nodded and her heart beat faster and faster as she followed Merlin towards the hotel he was staying at.

Little did she know that the choice she made to follow Merlin Scoggins to his hotel would change her whole life. And not entirely for the worse.
