(I don't own White Collar or Saved by the Bell. I just saw a unique opportunity to bring these two shows together. I have agonized over this story for a year now and I hope I respected them enough for you guys to enjoy and embrace this story.)
(January 17, 1995- San Francisco, CA)
Zack Morris sat at his desk working on paperwork that had to be finished by the end of the week. Unlike he does in his personal life there is no procrastination. Although at home there is a term paper currently sitting on the kitchen table waiting to be finished, it's due tomorrow.
"Zack, Kelly's here to see you." Came a voice from his doorway of his little office, even without his degree yet Zack was doing really well at the bank quickly moving up the ranks. He was now a loan officer part time and the bank paid for his tuition to CALU because they figured it would benefit them in the long run of things. Zack and Kelly were both grateful for this because it eased their finances a bit to not have to pay for two tuitions at a time.
"Alright I'll be out in a minute." Zack finished the paperwork he was currently signing and walked out of his office, after locking all the paperwork in his drawer. "Hey Babe."
"Hey I ended up not having class, so I thought we could grab lunch." Said Kelly kissing him when he reached her.
"Yeah just give me a minute to tell them I'm leaving." Just as Zack walked away from her 3 men walked in to the bank, loaded with automatic weapons.
"NOBODY MOVE! We just want the money, but if anyone tries to be a hero I'll shoot them dead understand?"
As Zack heard this he realizes his fatal mistake, he's left Kelly by the door while he walked over to the head teller to tell her he was leaving for a bit.
"You okay?"Asked Zack to her, she snapped back to reality.
"Yeah I'm fine, just a little scared but I'm fine you?"
"Shut up! God! You sound like you're married!" Zack looked at her, silently telling her not to say anything to the men about their relationship.
Zack figured they would get the money and then they would leave, but then he heard the cops show up outside, knowing that one of his co-workers had hit the panic button they had just installed under the counter.
"Who hit the button?! Huh who did it?!" Nobody would answer the man that appeared to be the ring leader of the operation. "I'm going to start shooting people if no one answers me, who hit the BUTTON?!" Suddenly the bank manager stood up and raised his hand.
"I did." Next thing they knew a shot was fired and Zack's boss was on the ground dead. Zack looked over to Kelly who had her eyes closed and her hands covering them, but knowing her as well as he did he knew she was crying.
"You said no one was going to get hurt! Why did you do that?" Yelled one of the men.
"He gave us up to the cops what did you expect me to do! Now is the vault open? IS THE VAULT OPEN?!"
"No you need three combinations to get in." Answered Zack.
"Who has them?"
"I have one, the head teller and the bank manager who you just killed had the last."
"Like you don't know his." Said the leader.
"I don't they change everyday automatically. You can't open it without all three."
"How do I know you're telling the truth?"
"Cause he is." Said Kelly tearfully speaking up.
"Oh, and how would you know?" Said the leader of the trio.
"Because he is." Said Kelly.
As Zack watched the man speak to Kelly and it took him a minute to really realize that the lead man was actually Freddie Silver, the man that used to date their friend Carla, and also tried to kill them when they were in Vegas. He then realized it would only be a matter of time before Silver recognized him and Kelly.
"Hey why don't you let the women go, they might take it as a good faith effort and take it into consideration when they arrest you." Suggested Zack trying in any way to get people away from the three men. He also realized that the other men were not Frankie and Joey, the men who helped Silver in Vegas.
"Because I don't want to, I want the combinations to the vault." Said Freddie.
"Well good luck with that because you killed the third holder of the combination we have to memorize the numbers then shred the papers they are printed on. I'll make you a deal I'll go to Joe's office see if I can find something that will help you, but you have to let all the women go." Said Zack.
"Fine, you know what I don't care let them out!"
"I'm not leaving without you." Said Kelly out loud.
"Yes, you are. I'll be out soon and we'll go to lunch. And then I have to finish my term paper for Laskey."
"What you two know each other?" Asked one of the thugs.
"Yeah, and we know your boss. He tried to stop our wedding last year." Said Kelly as Zack looked up in exasperation at the fact that she just revealed their identities to Freddie if he hadn't already figured it out.
"KELLY!" Said Zack. "Please go outside with the others."
"No, I'm not leaving you alone with them." Said Kelly.
"You know what? She's got a point she's staying everyone else out." Said Freddie.
"Kel, why can't you just listen to me for once!" Asked Zack frustrated.
"Because I don't know a life without you in it." She stated.
"Save it for later, let's go now." Said Freddie to Zack. One of the other thugs followed them into the office while the other one stayed in the lobby with Kelly and the others.
Meanwhile outside Slater, Screech, and Mike had made their way down to the bank when they heard on the news about the hold up.
"Excuse me, my friend is a loan officer, he's supposed to be working today." Said Slater to one of the cops.
"We're still trying to compile a list of the people inside, what's his name?" Asked the cop.
"Zack Morris." Said Slater.
"And you're sure he was here today?"
"Yes positive. That's his Mustang over there." Said Slater pointing to Zack's car.
"Sir, we've got people coming out!"
"GUNS DOWN!" Said a SWAT team member as five women came running out, but before the team could get close enough the thug shut the door quickly and bolted it.
"Ladies are any of you injured?"
"No just shaken." Said one of the customers.
"What happened in there?" Asked the cop that had been speaking with the guys.
"Just as you guys were pulling in they realized someone pressed the panic button. It turned out to be the manager so he killed him." Said a lady who was in her 30s with tears in her eyes.
"Do you know any of the other hostages?" Asked the cop.
"One of the younger loan officers and I think his girlfriend, something about the robber stopping a wedding."
"Who mentioned the wedding?" Asked Slater.
"Excuse me you can't ask her questions."
"One of the thugs asked them if they knew each other and the girl said 'Yeah, and we know your boss. He tried to stop our wedding last year.'
"Oh SHIT!" Said Slater.
"What?" Asked the cop.
"The ring leader is Freddie Silver."
"And how do you know him?"
"Kel and Zack attempted to elope, it's a long story. Anyway I met a girl who had an ex-boyfriend who wanted to kill her, we got caught up in it long story short he went to jail and now he's in there with my friends."
"Okay, why don't you head over there and we'll work on getting them out."
"Fine." Said Slater knowing the cops would do all they could.
"What's going on?" Asked Mike.
"Both Kelly and Zack are in there, there's three guys and the ring leader is Freddie Silver."
"Why does that name sound familiar?" Asked Mike.
"We ran into him in Vegas, he's Carla's ex." Said Slater.
"Oh SHIT!" Said Mike.
"That's what I said, and now he's escalated. He killed the bank manager." Said Slater.
"Should we call Zack and Kelly's parents?" Asked Screech.
"No, not until we know more." Said Mike.
The three men stood there and waited for news on their friends.
January 2012- NYC
A young woman now in her mid-30s was sitting in her living room, new town, new friends, new husband. Well actually her husband wasn't new he'd been around for years. Kelly Kapowski Morris was now Elizabeth Burke, wife of FBI Special Agent Peter Burke. She had jokingly told Peter's partner Neal that he had had her under surveillance before they started dating, it was true though. It was to make sure she was safe after her transfer from Columbus, OH.
"We interrupt this broadcast to bring you a special report from San Quentin Prison in California. We go to Sally Cook for the story, Sally?"
"Thank you Ron. Today I'm standing in front of San Quentin Prison where during breakfast a man by the name of Fredrick Silver was killed during a fight. Silver was an inmate incarcerated since his 1996 conviction of the 1995 First Union Bank Robbery in San Francisco and the murder of two bank employees. From what prison officials are saying Silver was not usually around other inmates but today he was on his way to the recreation yard when the fight broke out between other inmates. Silver was stabbed 5 times and died shortly after. Ron?"
"Thank you Sally. Silver had a long record and this was not his first time in prison, he had been arrested and convicted in Las Vegas for his connection in the attempted jewelry heist and 7 counts of kidnapping and intimidating witnesses. It is believed that he escaped from the Nevada prison he was in for the jewelry heist and that is when he made his way to robbing First Union as Sally said he killed a junior loan officer who was only 20 at the time and the bank's manager who was 32. Now in other news…"
Elizabeth sat there on the couch in shock, before grabbing the phone and dialing Peter's cell phone number.
"Hey Hon." Said Peter answering the phone noticing El's name come up on his caller ID.
"Peter?"
"El? What's wrong?" This got Neal's attention and he stopped reading the case file he was holding in his hand.
"Nobody's called you yet?"
"About what?"
"Freddie Silver was killed in prison today."
"Are you sure? How did you find out?" Asked Peter.
"It was just on the news, he got stabbed 5 times. Then they mentioned his convictions."
"Did they mention you or Zack by name?"
"No they just said 'a junior loan officer and the bank manager' no names but the California stations probably did. Especially LA."
"Alright I'm going to have Jones come and get you, and then I'm going to call my friend at WRLA and find out." He looked at Neal and pointed to Jones who was out in the bullpen. Neal got up and called out to Jones.
"Jones! Peter wants you."
"Coming."
As Jones walked into the office Peter was hanging up the phone. Rubbing his eyes he glanced over at the two younger men.
"What's up?" Asked Neal.
"Jones, I need you to go get El at my house." Said Peter ignoring Neal for a moment.
"Am I bringing her back here?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, be back soon." Said Jones leaving the office.
"Peter what's going on?" Asked Neal now worried.
"A prisoner in California was killed this morning."
"So what does that have to do with Elizabeth?" Peter sighed and thought about how to word this explanation.
"When Elizabeth was 20 her husband was killed in a bank robbery."
"Wait, Elizabeth was married before you?"
"Yeah, listen I'll explain everything in a minute I just have to make a couple calls first."
"Yeah sure can I do anything?"
"Actually here's a list of people, I need phone numbers for them." Said Peter handing Neal a small notebook.
"Do you need addresses?"
"Not yet, but take this and match pictures just to be sure it's them." He said handing Neal a book with labeled photos in it.
"You got it." Neal took both books and headed down to his desk and got started.
As soon as Neal left Peter called El's old handler Chad Berry to find out more information.
"Agent Berry."
"Chad, this is Peter Burke, why wasn't I informed of what happened this morning she had to find out on the news?"
"Peter I was going to call you I've been working on this since I found out 20 minutes after it happened. I'm trying to track down former associates of his to make sure they aren't a threat."
"Yeah, and while you've been doing that she hasn't talked to her family and friends in 15 years."
"I know. So far there doesn't seem to be any threats to her the guys from the Vegas job both served their time and went straight, and in the San Francisco case one committed suicide and the other was killed in a bar fight 4 years ago. The biggest threat was Silver and he was in solitary most of his sentence."
"So can she come out of hiding?"
"Soon, Peter let me do my job, give me an hour I have a couple more people to talk to."
"I'm letting her call her family. I have a secure line. This is happening Chad."
"Peter please just give me some time."
"Chad you're not getting this. When Zack was killed she didn't just lose her husband she lost her whole life. Until they got married them and their friends all lived together in a dorm and before that they all went to high school together. She's one of 7 kids she had never lived alone until all of this. She's calling them as soon as my agent gets her back here."
"Okay."
"Good, now did they mention her or Zack by name on the news there?"
"No and they won't we sent out a press release barring them from doing so, since she was a victim and witness."
"Anything I should know before I let her call? Deaths? Anything?"
"Not since the last time I spoke with you."
"Good, I have to go she just got here." Peter hung up the phone and walked out onto the landing that over looked the bullpen.
"Hey."
"Hey so have you talked to Chad yet?"
"I just got off the phone with him, they didn't mention any of you. I'm going to open up the secure line and we're going to make some phone calls."
"Okay. Did you tell Neal?"
"He's working on something for me." Said Peter hugging her and leading her into the office.
"Hey El." Said Neal coming back into Peter's office with the book and a piece of paper.
"Hey Neal."
"Did you find them?"
"Yeah, we're good."
Neal sat down at on the visitor's side of the desk and looked at Peter and Elizabeth much like a little kid waiting for his parents to tell him something, rather than his friends.
"So what's going on?" Asked Neal tired of the silence in the room.
"I was married before I met Peter to my high school sweetheart, Zack and I had known each other our entire lives, but we didn't start dating until freshman year of high school. We broke up a few times, dated other people, but always came back. We got back together around Thanksgiving our first year in college. Right after we get back from Christmas break, there was an opportunity for me to go on the Semester at Sea program. Zack tried to get on the trip too, even going as far as scamming our friend into giving up his spot, but unfortunately he pissed the Dean of Students off one too many times before break that she turned him down. Let me tell you she was one of the first women Zack couldn't charm. He proposed that night in my bedroom while our roommates were sleeping, we lived in a six-person suite with two of our friends from high school and then my roommates. He kept trying of course but I shut him down every time." By this time in telling her story Elizabeth was walking around the room, while Neal and Peter sat there watching her. "I was packed and on the boat when Zack showed up at the last minute and I decided I didn't want to go so I told him yes and we got off the boat. I'll spare you guys the details of that night, but the next day we called our families. My parents were okay with the engagement, Zack's mom was happy not thrilled but happy. But Zack's dad wasn't mostly cause we were 19 and he wanted both of us to finish school. Zack was a finance major and I was pre-med at the time. Anyway due to things getting out of control with our friends, we ended up in Vegas. Slater met Carla when they were caddying because the guys had to use our wedding fund for bail money, whole other story that I still don't know the finer details of. Anyway Slater and Carla went to dinner when Silver found them, I guess he tried to cause issues with Slater so he knocked him out, and then his partners or bodyguards showed up. Carla said Silver wanted the Considine Diamond."
Neal whistled. "I can see why that this worth a fortune."
"In 1994, it was worth $4 million." Peter looked at Elizabeth in shock. "What? They had it on display Lisa was saying that her future husband was buying it for her."
"Good taste." Said Neal as Elizabeth nodded.
"So Silver and his guys chased us all around town, Zack almost died at our hotel trying to get into my room. I was pissed at him for something that is so insignificant now and I locked him out so he decided to climb from his room to mine across the balcony, which really isn't hard but we were 50 floors up."
"Ouch." Said Neal.
"Silver got arrested, Zack and I got married and we thought that was it. We went back to San Francisco after going to Hawaii on our honeymoon, worked and we went to school while on weekends we worked on our apartment which was horrible when we moved in so much so that we didn't walk around barefoot until we lived there about 3 months when we could afford to put carpet in the living room. About a year or so later I had a cancelled class and it was during Zack's lunch break, so I went over to the bank he was working at…" Elizabeth had to stop and collect herself for a moment thinking about that day.
"El, you okay?" Asked Peter.
"Yeah, I'm fine, I should have listened to him, I should have left so he could concentrate on Silver."
"El, you thought you were doing the right thing, besides you got to say goodbye if you had been outside you would have lost that time. Then you'd regret that."
"You're right." El took a deep breath. "Freddie Silver showed up at the bank and held it up. Zack tried to get the 3rd code to the vault, but he wasn't working fast enough, Silver made the mistake of killing Brad the manager who had the code Zack was looking for. Silver knew who we were, that we were involved in foiling his Vegas heist. Anyway Zack found it and as they got back to the teller counter Silver shot Zack point blank in the chest. I ran over, not caring what was going to happen to me. The cops were finally able to get in and Zack died in my arms. Slater and our RA Mike had to pull me off Zack. Silver made threats against me and after Zack's funeral I went into Witness Protection. My first place was in Nebraska, you want to talk culture shock I grew up in the Palisades part of LA and lived near San Francisco major change. After Nebraska I lived in Columbus for a couple weeks. 3 states 3 different names before this last one was able to stick."
"How long were you in Nebraska for?"
"3 ½ years, before they moved me to New York."
"Is that why you had her under surveillance?" Asked Neal with a smile understanding everything now.
"Yes, and also why it took me a week to get back to you about your release. I had to make sure you had no connections to anyone." Said Peter as his phone rang. "Burke."
"Peter, it's Chad. We're all clear."
"Great, thanks."
"No problem, tell her can go back to using her birth name whenever she wants."
"I'll tell her."
"Good luck."
"Thanks." Said Peter hanging up. "Kelly it's over you can come out of hiding."
"What?"
"That was Chad, he said you can come out of hiding now, Kelly."
"You called me Kelly."
"I did."
Kelly took a breath. "Well now what?"
"You can call your friends and family tell them you're okay, and where you are. Neal got all the numbers for you. Now you can talk to them for real instead of just sending flowers to Melody once a year."
"You know I've always thought I would call my parents first, but now? I know who I should call first for information."
"Here are the numbers." Said Peter handing the piece of paper to her. Kelly picked up the phone and dialed the first number.
"Hello?" Came an unfamiliar female voice.
"Um, hi I'm looking for Slater?"
"Hang on. Slater! Phone!"
"Hello?"
"Slater? It's Kelly."
"Kelly? Where are you? Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm in New York."
"Wow, I just can't believe I'm talking to you again, it's been a long time."
"Too long, but you understand why I left right?"
"Kelly, of course I do. You weren't safe anywhere in California, while Silver was alive. I hoped when we found out you'd call us somehow. Mom got the flowers every year, they're always beautiful."
"Yeah it took a while to find everyone's numbers." She said looking at Neal with a smile.
"It took the same amount of time for Jones to go and get you and come back." Said Neal quietly.
"I totally understand. I kept that number for 5 years before I moved out of range for it."
"Sorry I couldn't call you sooner."
"Hey listen to me, no more apologizing. We all have things that are out of our control and everything that happened back then and since then is just that."
"Have you been to the cemetery?"
"Yeah, I go every year, I usually run into Mom there, she puts some of the flowers you send there."
"Good, do you think she'd be okay with me calling?"
"Kel, I think she'd be ecstatic if you called her, most of the time I think she loved you more than she loved Zack." Said Slater with a laugh.
"Yeah well I never tried to sell her house or even half of the stuff he pulled off and most of it she has no clue."
"She only knows about the things she does cause Mr. B told her." Said Slater.
"Well he was legally obligated because of the suspensions Zack would rack up. But I'll never forget when Derek caught us senior year. I thought the lecture would never end, then I had to go home and get it from my parents."
"He called me after. I always told him to go to the old drive in you know the one they closed in like '88. But no you two had to be all normal and go for it in his room."
"Yeah right, had you seen his backseat that week. Screech spilt soda or something it was nasty."
"True, so where can I reach you?" Asked Slater.
"Um, let's just keep it me calling you for now, I have access to a secure line and it's better for all of us."
"I've missed you Kel. So what's going on in your life other than what happened today?"
"I got remarried."
"Good for you. He's good to you? What does he do for a living?"
"He's wonderful to me, he's a FBI agent."
"You married a cop?"
"I married a FBI agent Slater."
"Is that safe with you being in Witness Protection?"
"Safer than you know. Peter works white collar crimes."
"Kelly, Kelly, Kelly. What do you do for a living?"
"I'm an events planner."
"I believe it. I'm so happy you called Kel I've really missed you."
"I miss you too Slater, I've missed everyone. I'm going to call Melody and my parents. We'll talk soon."
"You bet. Love you."
"Love you too, bye."
"Bye."
Kelly wiped her eyes as she hung up.
"You okay?" Asked Peter worried about his wife.
"Yeah, I'm fine. It's just been so long since I talked to him it brought up a lot of sudden memories I haven't thought of in a long time. But I have to pull myself together for the next few calls."
"Who are you going to call next?" Asked Neal.
"Zack's parents, then mine." Kelly glanced at the number once and then dialed it by memory.
"You still know the number?" Asked Neal.
"I called that number at least once a day practically from the day I met Zack until we got to college." She said as she finished dialing and it started to ring.
"Hello?"
"Hi Derek it's Kelly."
"Kelly? As in my daughter in law Kelly?"
"Yes. Hi."
"Sweetheart it is so good to hear your voice."
"Your's too. How are you?"
"I'm good, I retired last year."
"That's great, you deserve it." Said Kelly.
"It was hard at first, I think I drove Melody crazy, but we've gotten into a routine. So how are you doing? Are you safe?"
"I'm doing good, I remarried about 11 years ago, I'm living in New York now."
"Good, he wouldn't want you to be alone." With this being said Kelly's tears started coming down. "Kelly, I didn't mean to upset you."
"No it's okay I just think everything's hitting me at once." She said as Neal handed her the box of Kleenex.
"Are you sure?" Asked Derek.
"Yeah, I just talked to Slater and it just brought up a lot of stuff."
"I can imagine it would, you guys were all so close. We got the flowers you sent, they were beautiful Melody went up there a little while ago."
"You're welcome. It was the only way I could think of to let you guys know I was okay."
"It was a good idea Sweetheart. So what are you doing for work now?"
"I'm an events planner. I love it."
"That's great, I hate to tell you this but when you told us you were going pre-med I was a little shocked and worried for you."
"I think I shocked myself. Zack was a big help with my chemistry homework though."
"My son?" Asked Derek with a laugh.
"Yeah, well I won't tell you his tricks but yeah he was the only way I got through it."
"So what does your husband do for work?"
"He's an FBI agent."
"Really?" Asked Derek surprised.
"Yeah."
"Any children?"
"No. Just a dog."
"Have you spoken to anyone besides Slater and I?"
"No I just got the go ahead to start contact a little while ago."
Just as Derek was about to respond the front door opened.
"Derek?"
"In here Melody."
"Hi who are you talking to?" She asked noticing the house phone in his hand.
"Someone who would like to talk to you."
"Who?"
"Just take the phone."
"Hello?" There was no response from Kelly who had started crying harder at the sound of Melody's voice. "Hello?"
"Hi Mom." Said Kelly quietly.
"Kelly, Honey is that you?" Asked Melody looking at Derek.
"Yeah, I'm here."
"Oh my God Kelly. Where are you? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, I live in New York now."
"Now?"
"Yeah, first Nebraska, then Ohio, and finally New York."
"Are you safe? Happy?"
"Yes."
"I've waited 15 years to hear those words."
"What words?"
"That you were safe and happy. Oh your parents must be so happy. Have you called them?"
"I haven't. I've only spoken to you guys and Slater so far."
"Well we have plenty of time to catch up you better call your parents."
"Okay. I will. Can I just talk to Dad again real quick?"
"Of course, you call me later and I'll catch you up on the news."
"Okay, bye I love you."
"I love you too Sweetheart, here's Derek."
"Hi Honey."
"Hi I was wondering if you could tell her about Peter and stuff."
"Absolutely. Don't be a stranger."
"I won't, I can actually sign my name now."
"What name have you been going by?"
"Elizabeth or El. It was the closest I could get to Kelly or Kel. Without it being obvious. So thank you for telling her and I will talk to you soon."
"It's no problem. Bye Honey."
"Bye."
Kelly hung up the phone and without pausing dialed her parents' phone number.
"Hello?" Came a young voice on the phone.
"Um, Hi I'm looking for Frank or Carol?"
"Yeah hang on Mom! Phone!"
"Billy, you don't have to yell around here."
"Mom I'm the youngest of 7, yelling is the only way I'm heard."
"Whatever, Hello?"
"Mom?"
"Who's this?" Asked Carol confused.
"It's Kelly."
"Kelly! Oh my God! Is it really you?"
"It's really me Mom."
"Oh my God, Baby is it safe for you to be calling?"
"Yeah it's all over. Freddie Silver was killed in prison this morning Peter checked it all out. It's safe."
"Who's Peter?"
Kelly mentally kicked herself.
"My husband."
"You remarried?"
"Yeah, about 11 years ago."
"Wow. So where are you living now?"
"New York."
"City?"
"Yeah, I'm an events planner."
"Well if anyone can pull off an event it's you, look at what you kids were able to do for senior prom and even that play right before graduation." Carol then thought for a second realizing she mentioned two things that were tied to Zack. "Oh dear, Kelly I'm sorry I didn't mean to…"
"Mom it's okay you can mention Zack and high school I made peace a long time ago with the fact that he's gone but he'll always be a part of me."
"I remember you girls trying to plan all those dances and pep rallies."
"And then the guys would do something stupid and it turned into an event to bail them out."
"You loved it, that's what makes life interesting."
"Yeah like when Billy ended up in Mr. Belding's office at a year old."
"How did that happen?"
"It was when you guys got snowed in and left me with him. I had to take him to school, I broke my arm during yearbook photos and they were all helping me look after Billy. It was before Zack and I started dating."
"Billy's first world was Zack's name if I'm correct?"
"Oh my God, you would have thought it was Zack's own child he was so proud. Slater kept trying to convince him Billy said 'snack', but we all heard it loud and clear. I can't believe that was him that answered."
"It was and let me tell you we got to know Richard on a first name basis during Billy's 4 years at Bayside."
"How is Mr. Belding?"
"Good. He's still principal at the school. I'm sure he'd love to hear from you."
"I will, I need to make a few more calls before I call Bayside."
"Well if Samuel is one of those people, you are better off calling Bayside for him, he's a chemistry teacher and spends most of his time in the lab."
"Shocker." Said Kelly with a laugh.
"He seems to enjoy it, Violet can usually drag him out at about 6."
"Violet?"
"Bickerstaff."
"They're together?" Kelly asked with a smile.
"Yup they got married oh I guess about 6 years ago."
"Wow any other gossip I should know?"
"Uh, Lisa is still with Kurt although they haven't gotten married and Jessie is divorced she married a guy who was exactly like her. They split mutually and Slater is seeing someone but I can't remember her name. Very relaxed though. He changes girlfriends often."
"I'm not surprised after Jessie and Alex two very high strung people it's got to be hard to be with someone calm."
"So how are you doing with everything? Really?"
"I'm okay. It doesn't hurt every day anymore. Peter is really great about it when it gets hard."
"And what does Peter do for a living?"
"He's a FBI agent, I seem to be saying that a lot today."
"FBI? Is that safe? I mean with your history?" Asked Carol nervous.
"Yes, no one here knew my real name until this morning. Except for Peter."
"Okay. Sorry it's just so sudden I mean it's been so long since I've seen you and I forget that you are all grown up. Even though I've seen you get married before."
"I understand Mom. But listen I really hate to cut this short but I've taken over Peter's office and I still have a few more calls to make. Can you tell Daddy I'll call him later."
"Of course Sweetheart. I'll talk to you soon."
"I love you Mom."
"I love you too Kelly."
"Bye."
She hung up the phone and turned around to find Peter and Neal sitting across from her.
"You okay?" Asked Neal.
"Yeah, my little brother answered the phone. The last time I saw him was at Zack's funeral."
"How old was he?" Asked Neal.
"7." Neal whistled. It was just starting to hit everyone how long Kelly had been away from her friends and family.
"Maybe I should try calling Jessie. I want to talk to her before Slater gets the chance." Kelly picked up the phone again and dialed the number that said 'Jessica's work' and noticed it was a local number.
"Jessica Spano's office, how may I help you?"
"Yeah hi I was wondering if Jessie was in?"
"May I ask who's calling?" Asked Jessie's secretary.
"Can you tell her Kelly Morris is on the phone." The name felt foreign to everyone in the room including Kelly. "It's the only name she knows me as." She said to Peter and Neal, who weren't shocked by any means.
"Look I don't know who this is but it's not funny at all." Said Jessie who came on the line.
"Jessie, it's really me. It's really Kelly."
"Yeah, right tell me something only Kelly would know."
"I know what happened in a tent on the white water rafting trip junior year." Neal looked at Peter.
"Oh my God! It is you. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, it's been a long crazy day."
"Slater told me Melody and Derek got the flowers you sent."
"Slater told you, Huh?"
"Yup, although that was yesterday, I haven't talked to him today. So what's going on? How are you able to call me?"
"Freddie Silver was killed in prison this morning, so we spoke to my handler at in the Witness Protection and decided I could contact everyone."
"So it's all over?" Asked Jessie.
"The hiding part is."
"So where are you?"
"The FBI building in New York."
"Why are you there? And New York City?"
"Long story and yes New York City."
"Kelly, I'm 4 blocks away can we meet somewhere?"
"I think that can be arranged, but I need to make a few more phone calls, can you give me an hour and I'll meet you at the Starbucks near the FBI building?"
"Absolutely. I will see you in an hour. And I want that long story."
"You'll get it."
"Okay, I'll see you at Starbucks."
"Starbucks."
Kelly hung up the phone and wiped the tears from under her eyes.
"You okay going by yourself?" Asked Peter.
"Yeah, besides that shop will be crawling with FBI agents, I just can't tell her what I need to in an FBI conference room. I'm surprised I haven't run into her sooner."
"What happened in the tent junior year?" Asked Neal shocking everyone by speaking with smile.
"Let's see 1 principal, 30 kids camping. Zack and I had been together for about a year and known each other our whole lives you do the math. Jessie and Slater covered for us."
"Ah." Neal got the picture pretty quickly.
"Speaking of the principal I need to call Bayside."
"Wait you're calling your high school principal?"
"He was more than just our principal, he was a friend and father figure for us. Our freshman year of college we had trouble getting home from San Fransisco, it was Zack, Slater, me, and our roommate Alex. She and Slater were together at the time, we borrowed our RA's truck because we weren't allowed to have cars on campus as freshmen so Zack and Slater had to leave theirs in their parents' garages. Zack got us lost and the fuel pump died, we were closer to school so we got towed back. Dinner got messed up cause Screech was involved and we ended up with turkey jerky from this 7-11 that Zack found near campus. There was going to be a story done for the Thanksgiving half time report because Mike our RA was a retired NFL player, and was doing a charity thing for disadvantaged kids."
"I think I remember seeing that a bunch of celebrities showed up right?" Asked Neal.
"Yeah. Well Mr. Belding happened to be nearby visiting family when he saw us, he came in and said that he was watching the game and saw that his kids had nothing to eat so he brought us mashed potatoes I think. He dropped his family and everything to come and check on us. He was at our wedding and then came to Zack's funeral as a pall bearer."
"He sounds like a great guy." Said Neal.
"Yeah, he named his son after Zack."
"That's a nice tribute."
"Zack helped deliver him in an elevator during an earthquake. Okay I have to get this done so I can meet Jessie on time." Kelly dialed the number to Bayside.
"Bayside High School, how may I help you?" Came a voice Kelly didn't recognize.
"Hello, can I speak to Mr. Belding please?"
"Can I ask who's calling?"
"Kelly Morris."
"Hold please."
"Thank you." The school's song played as the hold music. Kelly quietly hummed the song to herself.
"This is Richard Belding." Kelly guessed the secretary hadn't told him it was her.
"Hi Mr. Belding it's Kelly."
"Kelly? Kelly Morris?"
"That's me."
"Honey, it's so good to hear from you. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, I'm in New York."
"That's great, that's where Jessie is have you seen her?"
"I'm going to be meeting with her in a little bit."
"Great, Kelly can you hang on I want to get Screech."
"Okay."
"Mr. Powers to my office please?"
"Okay I'm back."
"Okay, so how's Zachary and Mrs. B?"
"They are great Zachary is a junior here, and Mrs. B is going to be so happy we heard from you she called me earlier and told me what happened."
"Did you tell Screech?"
"Slater did, he came by before school."
"Hey you wanted to see me?" Kelly heard Screech ask.
"Phone call you need to take, Honey I'll talk to you later."
"Okay, bye."
"Hello?"
"Hi Screech, it's Kelly."
"My Kelly?"
"Yeah."
"Oh my God, when Slater told me what happened we weren't sure when you would be able to make contact or even if you would."
"That was probably before I talked to him earlier."
"So are you okay, you're safe?"
"I'm safely ensconced in a conference room at the FBI."
"FBI? I thought the Marshalls handled Witness Protection?"
"They do but my case became a little different."
"How?" Asked Screech.
"I was working at an art gallery and it was robbed while I was working, I flipped out had a flashback and a panic attack all at once, freaked the robber out so bad he called the police on himself. FBI showed up and the agent in charge ended up talking me down. Which was a good thing because they were about to sedate me again. We got to talking and started dating."
"Kelly did you get remarried?" Asked Screech.
"Yes, about 11 years ago."
"Good for you he wouldn't want you to be alone."
"That's what Derek said."
"Dad's right. So what's your new last name?"
"Burke."
"Is he related to Leslie?"
"No."
"So can I tell Violet?"
"Yes you can. Oh can you tell Alex, Leslie, and Mike. I forgot to get their numbers from Slater."
"Yeah, oh word to the wise. Don't mention Carla to him, it's a touchy subject."
"You gonna tell me why?"
"What's your email?"
"eburkepe ."
"E?"
"Elizabeth, it's my alias."
"Gotcha. Okay I'll send you an email about that whole thing later."
"Okay, oh how will I know it's you?"
"screechpowers ."
"What no school email?"
"I have one but it's too long. I'm trying to shorten them with the computer teacher."
"Well I should let you guys get back to work I'll talk to you later."
"Just so you know Lisa and Kurt are out on the reservation for the next few days, I'll try to IM her on my break and tell her to call you. Because cell phone reception is spotty at best. So if you try to call her it'll probably go right to voicemail. What's your number?" Kelly looked at Peter and drew the number sign on a piece of scrap paper and Peter nodded. Kelly gave it to him and told him to pass it on to the others if they wanted it.
"Okay I got it, so what are you up to the rest of the day?"
"I'm meeting Jessie at Starbucks since she's also in New York."
"So when are you going to be able to come and visit?"
"I'm going to let things die down a bit before I come out and when I do it's got to be when Peter can get a vacation."
"Understandable. Well I'll talk to you tonight."
"Absolutely, bye Screech."
"Bye Kel." Kelly hung up and took a deep breath.
"You got sedated before? When?" Asked Peter.
"The night it happened. I went back to the dorm with Slater and Screech and was so upset I was hyperventilating they had to call the campus doctor for me. And then we got down to Melody and Derek's we were eating there and then Jessie brought me back to my parents' house it was after the wake we had friend who became a paramedic and I had another episode. Ox didn't want to but my parents asked him to. I was upset about leaving Zack alone."
"So the episode you had at the gallery?" Asked Peter.
"Wasn't the first."
"Have you had one since the gallery?" Asked Neal.
"Not as bad, they're mostly cold sweats or nightmares."
"They usually happen around the anniversary." Explained Peter.
"So if you guys don't mind I need to leave to meet a very old friend." Said Kelly.
"Be careful, I'll see you at home?"
"No I'll meet you back here, remember Jones brought me in."
"Right, okay I'll meet you back here then, are you going to be okay going there by yourself?"
"Peter I'll be fine, I've been going around this area alone since I've known you going to the coffee shop is nothing."
"Okay."
Kelly said goodbye to everyone and headed over to the coffee shop to meet up with Jessie.
"Do you want me to call Mozzie?"
"Yeah. Just in case."
"Okay." Neal dialed Mozzie's cell phone and waited for the man to answer.
"Hello?"
"Hey it's me, how close are you to the Starbucks near the FBI building?"
"Not far. Why?"
"I'll explain in more detail later but El is meeting an old friend from high school can you keep an eye out just in case?"
"I'll do you better I'll keep 4 out."
"What do you mean?" Asked Neal.
"Alex showed up."
"Why?"
"Don't know yet, but I'm not letting her out of my sight. So are we to engage them?"
"No, just keep an eye out."
"Okay."
"Thanks Moz."
"No problem. Bye."
"Bye." Neal sighed.
"What's up?" Asked Peter.
"Alex showed up. She's with Moz they'll watch out for her and Jessie."
"Okay." Said Peter.
"What no question about why Alex is around?"
"Don't care right now."
"What's up?" Asked Alex to Mozzie.
"You up for a cup of coffee?"
"Yeah, why?"
"We need to watch out for Mrs. Suit."
"Again, Why?"
"I don't know Neal just asked for us to go to the Starbucks cause El is meeting an old friend from high school, but we don't have to engage."
"Okay."
"So why are you in town?"
"Can't I just come in and see old friends?"
"Old friends yes, Neal no try again."
"I need his mind for something."
"Alex what?"
"It's about a collection of paintings."
"Wait on it until we figure out what's going on with El."
"That's fine." Said Alex as they reached the coffee shop. They grabbed a table where they could see everything but not be too obvious. Kelly walked in a short time later and grabbed a table on the other side of the shop so she could see the door and Jessie when she walked in which she did a short time later.
"Jessie!"
"Kelly!" Mozzie and Alex looked at each other puzzled.
"Oh my God you haven't changed a bit." Said Jessie.
"Neither have you. Why don't we order and then we can talk."
"Okay, it's on me."
"Jess you don't have to do that."
"I want to."
The two women made their way to the counter, when Kelly spotted Alex and Mozzie. She looked at Alex with a questioning look. Alex mouthed back 'Neal'.
"Jessie come here I want you to meet some people. This is Alex Hunter and Mozzie. Alex, Moz this one of my oldest friends Jessie."
"Nice to meet you." Said Alex.
"You too."
"Just so you know we were in the neighborhood already." Said Mozzie.
"Okay well enjoy your lunch and I'll see you guys later I'm sure."
"Bye Elizabeth, it was nice to meet you Jessie." Said Mozzie.
"You too.:"
Jessie and Kelly moved to the counter, and got their drinks before going back to their table that was thankfully still free.
"So the people at the other table?" Asked Jessie.
"Friends. Jess there is something I need to tell you. It's connected to Alex and Mozzie."
"Okay what's up?"
"I remarried about 11 years ago."
"Okay. Kelly were you worried I wouldn't be happy for you?"
"Well you and Zack were really close. I just wanted to tell you personally before you heard from one of the others."
"Kelly I loved Zack like a brother, but I know he wouldn't want you to be alone. It's been 15 years I would have been shocked if you weren't married or at least seeing someone. Now explain Alex and Mozzie."
"Okay so my husband Peter is a FBI agent."
"Really? Does he know about Zack and everything?"
"He knew about it the day we met."
"How?"
"New York was my 3rd placement."
"Where else did you live?"
"Nebraska and Ohio."
"Culture shock much?"
"I know. So finally they realized that and moved me here. I got a job at an art gallery. Well one day this guy came in and attempted to rob the place. I panicked, had a flashback so bad that it freaked the robber out. He called the police to get me an ambulance and got arrested in the process, NYPD called in the FBI cause it was an 'art crime' and Peter was the one to respond."
"So that's how he found out about Zack and everything?"
"Oh yeah, I had to tell him because of my episode and because my 'in case of emergency' was a US Marshall he became a tad suspicious."
"Okay so explain Alex and Mozzie."
"They are very good friends of Peter's consultant."
"Consultant?"
"Peter works in the White Collar Unit."
"Wait a minute, I read about a case where this unit has a criminal working with them to solve crimes, your husband is the lead agent?"
"Yes. So Alex said that Neal asked them to come here."
"When?"
"Oh when I noticed them. Peter can't send anyone else because I was just with them all so Neal must have called them."
"Protective, huh?"
"Oh yeah, but not overbearing just safe distance. So when I talked to Screech he mentioned that Carla was a touchy subject for Slater what happened?"
"After you left, she started blaming herself for everything, I mean she was already feeling guilty for whatever happened in Vegas."
"Which I told her it wasn't her fault that night before we left, and proceeded to tell her after. Hell even Zack told her."
"I know, when you guys left that night we all hung out for a bit in the restaurant at the hotel and continued to tell her. Then she was feeling guilty for a fight you and Zack had before the wedding?"
"That fight was all Zack's fault and started way before we even got to Vegas. From what I know Zack's 'great sense of direction' got them lost and then he was caught speeding, and had to use our wedding money to bail him, Screech, and Slater out. It ended with he and Screech working as escorts. Zack didn't tell me anything until he was hanging 50 floors up on our balconies after I locked him out of the room me and Lisa were sharing. She really blamed herself for that?"
"Yeah, anyway. Finally about a year later Slater got tired of it and broke it off. There's only so many ways you can tell someone they aren't to blame before you start to get irritated by it."
"Wow."
While Jessie and Kelly were catching up a man from Kelly's past walked in to the coffee shop.
"Kelly?"
"Jeremiah?"
"Wow it's so good to see you. How are you?"
"I'm good. Jessie this is Jeremiah Laskey, Jeremiah this is one of my oldest friends Jessie Spano."
"It's nice to meet you." Said Jessie instantly knowing who this man was.
"How's Abby?"
"She's good. She's a junior in college now over at NYU."
"Time flies huh?"
"It does. Listen I didn't really get to tell you that I was sorry about Zack. I didn't want to intrude on everything back then."
"I appreciate it."
"I just thought it would have been awkward given our history. I went but I stayed in the back."
"Water under the bridge for me and I know it was for Zack as well."
"Really?" Asked Jeremiah.
"Yeah, we had an understanding. I didn't get mad at him about his past relationships and he didn't mad at mine."
"And trust me Kelly has way more reasons to have been mad at Zack than he ever did." Said Jessie.
"Jessie!"
"Kel, we're talking about the man who named the periodic table after all of the women he went on a date with. You told me that."
"I know. But he mellowed out when we got to college." Said Kelly with a smile.
"His final term paper was great." Said Jeremiah.
"He was planning to finish it that night."
"He wouldn't have had to do much probably just write the conclusion."
"Thank you for keeping your distance back then."
"You're welcome. I'll let you get back to your visit."
"Bye."
"Bye."
After Jeremiah left Jessie and Kelly continued with their visit. It wasn't long before Jessie brought up Jeremiah again.
"So does Peter know about you and the professor?"
"Yeah. I told him about three months into our relationship."
"And his reaction?"
"Indifference, didn't really care. He knew I was 19. Besides Zack and I got married four months later. At that time he was more worried about me having episodes."
"True." Said Jessie as her cell phone rang. "Hello?"
"Jessie?"
"Lisa! I'm so glad you called me back. Did you get my message?"
"Most of it. Something about Silver dying?"
"Have you caught the news at all today?"
"No. I just got home a couple minutes ago. We had a campout for the kids on the Reservation this weekend."
"Freddie Silver was killed at San Quentin today."
"Holy Shit! Do you think?"
"She's already made contact. In fact hang on."
"Lisa?"
"Is it really you?" Asked Lisa through her tears as Kurt listened in.
"It's really me. So are you living in New York now, or just passing through?"
"I'm living here. I've been here for about 12 years now. When I called Jessie we found out we were within a couple blocks of each other so we met up at a Starbucks."
"Wow. So what's up? What have you been doing all of this time?"
"I'm an events planner."
"And?" Said Lisa leadingly.
"And, what?"
"And, are you seeing anybody?"
"I remarried about 11 years ago."
"That's great. What does your husband do?"
"He's an FBI agent in the White Collar Unit."
"And he knows about everything?"
"Yup."
"You're safe. I mean it's safe to be talking to us?"
"Yeah, Peter and the Marshalls checked into all his known associates and they're all either dead or clean now. Including the guys from Vegas."
"So who have you talked to besides me and Jessie?"
"Everyone. You were the only one we had left. Screech was going to send you an email later telling you and to give you my email address."
"God I can't believe I'm finally talking to you." Said Lisa.
"I know it's been too long."
"So are you coming to L.A. anytime soon?"
"I'm not sure yet it depends on if Peter can get vacation time. I really don't want to come back alone."
"I can't blame you there. You let me know when and I will meet you at the airport and take you wherever you want to go."
"There's just some logistics that have to be worked out before he can leave."
"Well tell him that I said work it out, because I want to see you in person."
"I will. Listen I have to head back to Peter's office soon because I was escorted in this morning so I need to catch a ride home. Are you on Skype?"
"Yeah. What's your contact name?"
"Well I'm going to fix it when I get home, but you'll know it's me. What's your's?"
"LTDesigns."
"Okay I'll find you." Said Kelly.
"It was really good to talk to you Kelly."
"You too. I love you, I'll talk to you tonight." Said Kelly.
"Absolutely."
"Bye."
"Bye." Kelly then hung up the phone and handed it back to Jessie.
"You really have to leave?"
"Yeah come on."
Kelly and Jessie arrived at the FBI Building and stopped at the visitors' desk.
"Hey El."
"Hey Robert, I need another pass. This is my friend Jessie."
"Nice to meet you Ma'am. If you guys would just sign this sheet I'll go get them for you."
"Thanks." Said Kelly.
With their visitors' passes in hand the women headed up to the 21st floor and stepped through the glass doors. Peter was standing on the bridge talking to Hughes when he spotted her and Jessie.
"Hey that was fast."
"We were right around the corner. By the way some people say hello."
"All Neal."
"Uh-huh sure." Said Kelly. "Peter, Reese this is one of my oldest friends Jessie Spano. Jessie this is my husband Peter Burke and our friend Reese Hughes."
"It's nice to meet you Guys."
"You too. So how long have you known El?"
"Since kindergarten I think." Said Jessie.
"When you told off Zack for trying to kiss me."
"From then on it was my job to protect her from his advances until he finally got game."
"He never had game I just got tired of saying no." Said Kelly with a laugh knowing she had liked Zack from almost second one.
"Do you have any other calls to make?" Asked Peter.
"No, we actually got in touch with Lisa while at the shop."
"I thought she was somewhere reception was shaky?" Asked Peter.
"She got back to her LA house and got Jessie's message about this morning."
"I called her when I got Slater's email and luckily when she called back we were all able to talk." Said Jessie.
"Is it safe for me to Skype with her tonight?"
"Yeah, you're good. I'm so happy you are getting your life back." Said Peter.
"Me too, finally."
"Well, you have my cell number I assume?" Asked Jessie.
"I do."
"Well use it. Peter it was nice to meet you."
"You too Jessie, one of these night we should all have dinner."
"I'll look forward to it. Bye Kel."
"Bye."
"We should set her up with Neal." Suggested Peter.
"Jessie would have him for lunch. She's taken down some of the biggest jocks I know, and she's a lawyer."
"Ah. Neal you ready?"
"Yeah. By the way who was the hot blond?" Said Neal.
"My friend Jessie."
"Nice."
"She's a lawyer."
"No thank you." Said Neal jokingly.
They headed home after dropping Neal off at June's. The couple ate dinner before Peter went to the living room to watch a ballgame while Kelly took out her laptop in the dining room and opened up her Skype account and changed her screen name to KMB2012 and pulled up the search function and typed in LTDesigns luckily it only had one option to select.
"Hello?"
"Is Lisa around?" She asked Kurt who answered because he had been walking by.
"Yeah. LISA!"
"WHAT?!"
"Skype for you."
"Oh great." She said coming into the office.
"It's great to see you Kelly. I'll talk to you soon."
"You too Kurt. Bye."
"Oh it is so good to see you." Said Lisa.
"You too."
"So what have you been up to?"
"Working, hiding."
"What better place to hide than in New York?"
"I know. I was stuck in Nebraska and Ohio before that."
"Ohio okay, but Nebraska?"
"That was my first stop after leaving LA."
"Oh my god, that's insane."
"Yeah, the apartment they had me in was not pretty."
"Kelly, the place in San Francisco that you and Zack lived in still had an outline of a body on the floor. What's your idea of not pretty?"
"Lisa, my place in Nebraska had no running water at first. Thank goodness they let me bring what limited furniture we had with me."
"The stuff there was that bad, huh?"
"The stuff there I didn't want to touch with my finger nail let alone sit on."
"So you were okay after you left? Like episode wise?"
"Yeah, I had a few after. But one of them brought me Peter so it was okay."
"What do you mean?"
"About six months after I got to New York I was working at this gallery as an assistant manager and we got robbed. My anxiety attack was so bad it scared the guy so he called the cops on himself to get me an ambulance. Peter was one of the FBI agents assigned to the case."
"Let me tell you as someone who's seen you in one it's scary as hell Slater had to convince Ox that you wouldn't be mad at him for giving you the sedative and then he and Ox cried for a good twenty minutes after."
"Well luckily Peter was able to talk me down, without medication."
"Have you had one since then?" Asked Lisa.
"Not that bad. Every once in a while I'll have a nightmare, but I can usually bring myself out of it."
"Good, so how much gossip do you want?"
"What do you have?"
"No! I'm going next door." Kurt could be heard from wherever he was in the house.
Lisa and Kelly spoke for another hour about their classmates and what everyone had been up to.
"I'm going to order pizza." Whispered Peter as he walked by her on the way to the kitchen for the menu.
"Hon, I'm sorry we got caught up." Said Kelly looking over her shoulder.
"It's fine. Do you want anything special?"
"No just get whatever you want but come here first I want you to meet someone."
"Alright." Peter came over the dining room table and sat down next to Kelly.
"Lisa this is my husband Peter, Peter this is one of my best friends Lisa."
"It's nice to meet you Lisa."
"You too Peter."
"I'll let you ladies get back to your conversation." Peter then made his exit back to the kitchen.
"So when can you come see us in LA?"
"I don't know yet. I think I'm going to let things die down a bit before making a visit I have to prepare myself for it Lisa."
"Honey I totally understand take all of this at your own pace no one is going to rush you we just are relieved that you are okay."
"Not a day has passed that I haven't thought of you guys or Zack. I don't want you think that just because I left so soon after that I didn't care about how you all were feeling."
"Kelly, stop right there. You had to leave because staying with us wasn't safe. I have never wondered if you thought of us, because I know you Kelly. And you proved you cared every year when you sent Melody and your parents flowers to bring to him. She would always call us or send an email telling us that you were safe. Kelly you never have to apologize to any of us. We love you and we can't wait until we're able to all hug you and welcome you and Peter home."
"Thank you Lisa."
"You're welcome Kelly. Now I want your Facebook name."
"I don't have one."
"What?"
"It was a matter of safety I couldn't have one but now I might just make one."
"Do it now, I'll link you into the Bayside area."
"Okay God my email box is going to be flooded isn't it?"
"Make it private if you want that way only our circle can see it."
"I think I might just to get back into the fold of things." Kelly set about setting up her Facebook page and linked Lisa to it when she was done. Her name on it was Kelly K. Morris Burke that way people who knew her, knew it was her. It only took a few minutes for her to have friend requests from their circle Slater, Screech, Violet, Jessie, Lisa, Kurt. "Hey, do you know if anyone contacted Mike, Leslie, and Alex?"
"Um I don't know why don't you IM Slater he's on right now." Said Lisa.
"Okay." Kelly then opened the chat window and found Slater's name.
Kelly to Slater:
Hey did you get a hold of Mike, Alex and Leslie?
Slater to Kelly:
Yeah all 3 are on Facebook do you want me to tell them to request you?
Kelly to Slater:
No, I can do it are they on your's?
Slater to Kelly:
Yeah, I'm glad your back in my life Kel.
Kelly to Slater:
Me too. I've missed you all. I'm talking with Lisa on Skype so I have to go but we'll chat later?
Slater to Kelly:
I see how it is. Okay I'll talk to you later. Skype name?
Kelly to Slater:
KMB2012
Slater to Kelly:
Got it.
Kelly to Slater:
BTW who's the woman that answered your phone earlier?
Slater to Kelly:
Bye Kelly.
Kelly to Slater:
Fine I'll just ask Lisa or Jessie.
AC Slater Signed off
"I love being able to tease him again. So who is the girl?" Asked Kelly to Lisa.
"Some girl he's dating. I've never met her. Since Carla he doesn't bring girls around us unless it's serious and there's only been one memorable one, but she was only around for a year."
"I asked him and he just said bye."
"Yeah, that's his usual response. So did he contact Mike, Alex, and Leslie?"
"Yeah he said they're all on I'm going to find them now. While I'm talking to you."
"Just go through Slater's page, shouldn't be that hard they all post frequently."
Kelly found their friends and requested them and the requests were immediately accepted.
"Well that was fast."
"We all really have no lives after work. Mike's probably in between patients, Alex is teaching drama in San Francisco so school is out, and Leslie works for one of her parents' charities." Explained Lisa.
"Why is Alex teaching?"
"She decided that she needed something stable. She didn't want the uncertainty of acting so she decided to teach it."
"Wow." Said Kelly.
Lisa and Kelly continued to talk for another hour before it was time for them to hang up. And soon it was a month later and Kelly and Peter were on their way to LA to visit with Kelly's family. Reese had become Neal's handler while Peter was gone, Peter had a feeling a few art galleries would be visited in the couple weeks he was gone. Reese had a soft spot for Neal and had no problem taking the younger man around to see different exhibits.
As the pilot announced their decent into Los Angeles Kelly started shaking with nervousness. Peter gently took her hand and held it.
"I don't think I can do this." Said Kelly quietly.
"You can. You are the strongest person I know. I will be there every step of the way."
"God, this is going to be so hard." Said Kelly.
"Kelly, look at me you don't have to talk to anyone or see anyone you don't want to, that is why we're staying at the hotel."
"Okay."
"Jessie got in yesterday?" Asked Peter.
"Yeah. She said she wanted to make sure everyone knew I had to take this easy and slowly. She and her brother Eric flew out but he has stuff to do for work so we won't see him much."
"Who's picking us up?" He asked trying to keep her talking. "Kelly?"
"Huh? Oh uh Slater is I think."
"When are we meeting with your friends from CALU?"
"Um, Tuesday."
The plane landed and Peter gathered their carry-ons and then took Kelly's hand guiding her out of the plane and made their way to the baggage claim, Peter observed that Kelly was just going through the emotions of gathering her stuff.
"KELLY?!" Yelled a familiar voice. She looked up and saw the brown eyes of one of her best friends. She didn't respond verbally, she just folded herself into his arms, and let her emotions break. "Shh, it's okay. I got you. You're safe." Slater whispered, it took a few minutes for Kelly to calm down enough to pull away from Slater. "It's good to see you."
"You too, oh I'm sorry Peter this is my good friend AC Slater, Slater this is my husband Peter Burke." Said Kelly wiping her eyes.
"Nice to meet you Peter."
"You too Slater."
"So where do you want to go?" Asked Slater as they made their way out to the parking lot.
"Um, if you guys don't mind there's somewhere I need to go."
"Okay, are you sure?" Asked Peter.
"It's been too long." Said Kelly. "He needs to know I didn't forget him."
"He knows that Kel." Said Slater. "We all tell him when we go out there."
"He needs to hear it from me though."
"Okay." Said Slater pulling his SUV out of the parking space.
"Can we stop at the florist near there?"
"Absolutely." Said Slater as he pointed the car towards the florist closest to the cemetery.
A few minutes later Kelly walked into the shop and saw the shocked face of an old friend.
"No I'm seeing things. Kelly Morris isn't standing in front of me." Said Ox in his paramedics uniform, he had stopped in to see his wife Angela.
"Hi Ox. It's really me."
"Come here. Welcome home." He said gathering her in his arms.
"Thank you for everything you did for me."
"Kel, I didn't do anything."
"Ox, you helped me through one of the worst nights of my life."
"Kelly I drugged you."
"Ox, I was hysterical and no one could talk me down you did your job. Thank you."
"You're welcome." He hugged her again before greeting Slater and getting introduced to Peter.
"A couple times a year you get an anonymous order signed 'K' to Zack's parents and mine."
"It's you?" Asked Angela.
"Yeah, I just didn't realize we were all connected."
"Do you want me to send another bouquet?"
"No not send it, we're going to bring it up there."
"I'll put it together." Angela then started to gather all of the flowers and made the beautiful bouquet.
"How much do I owe you?" Asked Kelly pulling out her wallet.
"Nothing." Said Angela.
"Come on, really how much, it's $60 right?"
"Nothing Kelly. I'm happy I'm finally able to know that you're safe."
They finished their short visit with Ox and Angela and then armed with the flowers made their way back to Slater's truck and then the cemetery. When they arrived Slater started to guide them but was surprised when Kelly actually took the lead and in turn guided the 2 men to the headstone that simply read:
Zachary Morris
July 17, 1974 - January 17, 1995
Loving Husband, Son, Friend
"Hi Zack, I know it's been a long time. I'm sorry about that it was out of my control. I have missed you every single day. It's almost that day and it never gets easier but hopefully now that I'm back with our friends it'll be a little easier. I know I talk to you frequently but I just really want to tell you that I'm happy and safe. Peter takes great care of me. After everything happened and you were no longer here I had hoped that I would end up pregnant that way I'd have some piece of you still with me but in the end I'm slightly grateful that we were so careful because I don't think I would have been able to handle my grief and raising a child. I love you Zack and I miss you so much. I don't know where we'd be or what we'd be doing if you survived but I wish we had gotten that chance the almost 6 years we were together weren't enough. But I can't look at the what ifs, what I can do is live for the both of us and I hope you see that's what I've been doing all these years." Kelly kissed her fingers and then placed them on the headstone before standing up and going to hug Peter.
"Hey Preppie, it's been a while since I've come up but I really have no excuse except work's keeping me busy. Your car is still running. Your dad drives it everyone who doesn't realize it was yours first thinks it was his first car. It's been hard Man but now we got Kelly back and we're going to help look after her again. I can't believe it's been as long as it has since we've actually talked. I believe the last conversation we had was both of us complaining that we had to write those papers for Laskey. I wish it has been more serious than that but that was our typical Monday night talk, both of us bitching about a paper or test and Kelly telling us to shut up cause she was actually studying. Sarah and I broke up last night, it just didn't feel right anymore. I don't know the only person I could ever see long term is Jessie but we both know we'd just spend our time arguing and that's no way to raise a family. We'll see."
They said their goodbyes and then Kelly decided it was time to go to Derek and Melody's to which Peter decided to go to the hotel to check in with work. And to give Kelly a chance to visit with her in-laws.
"Are you sure? It won't be a problem for you to come with me Melody told me that." Said Kelly.
"Go, I'll meet them later. You need to do this on your own. Besides I have to check in with Reese and make sure he hasn't thrown Neal in prison yet."
"Okay. I'll see you later and then we'll head to dinner with my parents?"
"You got it. I love you Kelly, you are so strong I wish I had your strength."
"No I'm not I just have an incredible support system."
After Peter was at the hotel Kelly and Slater made their way over to Derek and Melody's house Kelly didn't think she'd be emotional until they pulled up to the house and saw the cherry red mustang sitting in the driveway. Kelly saw it and immediately broke down. The last time she saw the car was when it was sitting in the parking lot of the bank that day. Slater pulled over in front of the house like he had done ever since he got his license and parked before pulling Kelly into his arms and letting her have her moment.
"Shh, it's okay Kel. We're just going to go in there and say hi. You don't have to go near the car."
"I'm scared Slater."
"You don't have to be. I'll be right there with you."
Kelly stopped crying and fixed her make-up.
"You ready?" He asked.
"Yeah, I think so, it's just I haven't seen his car since that day."
"I understand." Said Slater.
"Let's go." As she was getting out of the truck she saw she had a text from Neal.
*Peter told me what you're doing. Good luck, here if you need to talk love ya.* She smiled and replied with a *Thanx*. The friends walked up to the door and Slater knocked. The door opened and Kelly was engulfed into the familiar arms of her father-in-law.
"Welcome home Sweetheart."
"Thank you Dad."
"AC nice to see you."
"You too Sir." Slater replied giving Derek a hug.
"Where's Peter I thought he was joining us?" Derek asked.
"Something with work came up and he had to check in." Said Kelly. It was then that Melody came downstairs and joined them.
"Kelly." She said quietly.
"Hi Mom." Melody immediately hugged her daughter-in-law. "I have missed you so much Honey you have no idea."
"I've missed you guys too.
The visit lasted until Kelly was due at her parents' house for dinner. They had a good visit it got emotional a couple times but then they would be reminded of something funny and it broke the tension.
"Do you want to go upstairs?" Asked Melody.
"Not right now, I'm not ready to see his room."
"I understand Sweetie. It's hard for me too I just go in there once a week to dust and that's hard. It's still the same as it was the last time you were here. We've thought about changing it into a guest room or office but then we can't picture getting rid of his stuff." Said Melody.
"I feel the same way. I still have some of his things that I just couldn't part with. Luckily Peter totally gets it and just lets me be when I need to be close to Zack. I kept our furniture from our apartment until Peter and I got married. By then I think I was ready to part with it. I slept in our bed until then too. No one else ever shared that bed with me." Said Kelly wiping her tears.
"You are so lucky to have found a man like Peter who understands you and all you've been through." Said Derek.
"I tell myself that every day. Because most people would have made major objections when told that they can't stay in your apartment or bed because it's something you shared with your husband. I'm sure he got frustrated but he never showed it to me."
"Do you really have to leave?" Asked Melody.
"I do, but I'll be back again before I go back to New York. I'm having dinner with my parents."
"Good, because I don't want to go another 15 years without seeing or talking to you. I love you Kelly." Said Derek.
"I love you guys too, and never again. I'm back for good."
After saying their goodbyes Kelly and Slater retreated back to his car. Kelly didn't glance back at the car she just kept her eyes forward and waited as Slater pulled back into traffic.
"So do you want to swing by the school Screech and Mr. B. should be there and school is almost out so you won't have to deal with too many students."
"Sure my parents aren't home from work yet." Said Kelly glancing at her watch when her phone vibrated.
*Just checking in and seeing what time we have to be at your folks?* It was a message from Peter.
*Just left Derek and Melody on way to Bayside I'll be back to the hotel soon and then we can head over.*
*Okay, no rush. Neal's not in prision.*
*I know he texted me.*
"Everything okay?" Asked Slater.
"Yeah just Peter checking in with me. Our friend is Peter's informant checked in with me earlier and Peter was just assuring me that in our absence he hasn't been thrown in jail."
"Is it safe for you to be that closely involved with Peter's work?"
"Neal's harmless. And he's more than once saved Peter's life. He's like a little brother and sometimes even a son to Peter."
"Good what was he in jail for?"
"Forgeries and a couple scams he was never convicted on. He escaped with 3 months left on his sentence cause his girlfriend at the time was in danger."
"Wow."
"He's smart, sometimes he reminds me of Zack. He'll come up with things that sometimes are a little self-serving but in the end it helps everybody." She explained as they pulled into the visitor's parking lot of Bayside.
The friends left the car and headed inside just as they had done every day many years before. The school hadn't changed much in the years since Kelly had since been there. Slater lead her down the main hall carefully as not to startle her into flashbacks considering how long they had spent in that particular hall. It was where all of their lockers were. The only difference now is that Mr. Belding's office was now on the other side of the hall across from where their lockers were instead of next to it.
"You good?" Asked Slater as he was ready to knock on the door.
"Yeah. I'm good."
"Any time you want to leave just say the word."
"Thanks Slater but I'm ready I've been ready for a long time it's just all hitting me at once." Slater nodded and knocked gently on the door.
"Come in." Said the voice on the other side.
"Hey Mr. B. you busy?" Said Slater not revealing that Kelly was with him.
"Always but I can take a break. How are you Slater?"
"I'm good Sir, I actually have someone with me that wants to say hi as well." He moved slightly to show Kelly behind him.
"Kelly."
"Hi."
"Hi Sweetheart welcome home." Said Mr. Belding pulling her into a tight hug.
"Thank you."
"So how are you?" Asked Mr. Belding.
"I've been good, work keeps me busy and so does Peter's work."
"They overlap?"
"Every once in a while but it's fun and gives me access to things I would never have access to in my normal world."
"That's great now does Peter know about everything?"
"He does. He's known about it since the day I met him. I was working at this gallery shortly after I moved to New York and it was robbed one day. Well I had a panic attack and the robber was so freaked out he called the cops and stayed with me until NYPD and the FBI showed up. Peter was the agent."
"Wow, and how have you been since? Any problems?"
"After a bad dream or if it gets close to Zack's birthday, our anniversary, or Zack's anniversary. He understands and lets me go through it and I know he's there if I need him."
"So let me page Screech, I'm sure you want to see him as well."
"Absolutely!"
"He's on his prep right now so it shouldn't be a problem." Said Mr. Belding. "Mr. Powers please report to my office."
Screech headed down to the office of his mentor expecting it to be a computer question. But what he got was the surprise of a lifetime.
"You wanted to see me Sir?"
"Nope I did." Said Kelly standing up from her seat.
"Oh it's so good to see you. Where's Peter?" Said Screech hugging her to him tightly as if he didn't want to let go.
"At the hotel, he needed to check in with work. You'll meet him later."
"What time are you having dinner with your parents?"
"Around 6."
"Nervous?" Asked Slater who could read her clearly as if no time had passed.
"A little. I mean I know I shouldn't because they're my parents, but I've changed in 15 years."
"Kelly, it's understandable. But I know they know you've changed. We all have, they love you and I know personally how much they've missed you." Said Mr. Belding.
Kelly continued to visit with three of her favorite men before it was time for school to end and Kelly needed to get to the hotel to freshen up before seeing her family again. When they left Kelly texted Peter asking what room they were staying in. Slater parked the vehicle and walked Kelly up to the room Kelly read in the text.
"Well I will talk to you later call me in the morning. I think we're all having lunch around 2."
"Okay, Slater thanks for everything today."
"You never have to thank me for anything. We're family through and through."
"Okay. I'll talk to you later."
"Hey how were your visits?" Asked Peter as she walked in the door.
"Good, it was really good to see everyone. I went and saw Zack's parents and that was hard but good."
"What was hard about it?"
"Derek has Zack's car. It was in the driveway when we got there. I haven't seen it since the day Zack died."
"What did you do after?"
"We went by Bayside and saw Mr. Belding and Screech. It was good to see them and I can't wait for you to meet them. I just want to thank you for coming with me. I know this isn't easy for you."
"Kelly, I love you. I would do anything for you and I know more than anybody that you had a life before me. And it was ripped from you in the most tragic circumstance. I want you to have that life back and I hope we can merge them."
"I hope we can too." Said Kelly hugging him. "Do we need to bail Neal out yet?"
"No. He's on his best behavior."
Kelly and Peter just relaxed for a little while before it was finally time for them to get ready and head over to Kelly's parents' house. While she'd been gone earlier Peter rented a car so they could get around the city easier. Kelly got in the driver's seat and pointed the car in the direction of her parents'. While on the way she played tour guide pointing out various places to Peter including The Max.
"We'll have to stop there later if they're still open." Said Kelly.
"Maybe you should call everyone and see if they can make it." Suggested Peter.
"I think it should be just us. I need a moment to process without them all wondering if I'm going to break down."
"I 100% understand."
Kelly pulled the car up in front of the Kapowski house and took a deep breath as she placed the car in park.
"You ready?"
"I've been waiting 15 years for this and I'm having trouble getting out of the car."
"Take your time. I'm here with you." Said Peter gently.
"Okay let's go."
Kelly and Peter made their way up to the front door and Kelly knocked nervously.
"We can leave anytime you want." Said Peter rubbing her back. "Thank you for going on this trip with me. I know it can't be easy."
"I will follow you anywhere you would like me to go. You need to do this to finally heal."
Carol heard the knock and took a quick look around the room making sure everything was in it's place.
"Frank! They're here!"
"Okay. Remember just give her space. We don't want to overwhelm her."
"Okay." Carol opened the door and for the first time in 15 years laid eyes on her oldest daughter.
"Kelly." Said Carol quietly.
"Hi Mom."
"Well come in you guys."
"My Sweetheart." Said Frank pulling her into his arms in a tight hug.
"Hi Daddy. Mom, Dad this is Peter Burke my husband."
"It's nice to meet you Peter." Said Carol.
"It's nice to meet you too Mr. and Mrs. Kapowski."
"So where is everyone?" Asked Kelly as they moved into the living room.
"We didn't want to overwhelm you all at once but they should be around later." Explained Frank.
"I'm sure I have new nieces and nephews."
"You do." Said Carol pulling out a few photo albums.
The family sat and looked at photo albums including ones from Kelly's childhood luckily most of them were family albums and not the photos she shared with the rest of her friends. Dinner was served and soon the house was filled with Kelly's siblings. Her brothers sized up Peter until Kelly pointed out he carried a gun for a living and had been keeping her safe for over 10 years.
All in all it went good, and she knew for sure they forgave her for getting mixed up with Silver. She exchanged contact information with everyone and they retreated back to the car armed with promises to keep in contact.
"So do you want to see if The Max is open?"
"Sure. I could go for a milkshake right now." Kelly once again steered the car and drove the trip she must have made hundreds of times before. When she pulled up to the restaurant and parked.
"Lets go." Said Kelly grabbing her purse and double checking her wallet that she had cash out of a long forgotten habit. Peter found this amusing and briefly got a glimpse of teenage Kelly. "What?"
"Nothing I just find it cute that you think they don't take credit cards."
"Sorry." Said Kelly with a smile putting her wallet back in her purse.
The couple made it to the door when Kelly had to take a deep breath before opening the door and stepped in to the building.
"Is it the same?"
"A few things, they had a fire a few years ago and they had to remodel but a lot of it is still here." Said Kelly moving down the steps."
"Where do you want to sit?" Asked Peter letting her guide the visit.
"Uh, over here." She said pointing to a table away from the one that she used to sit at with the gang.
"Hi my name is Melissa and I'll be your waitress what can I get you tonight?"
"I'll have a chocolate milkshake and a plate of fries extra crispy." Said Kelly.
"And you Sir?"
"I'll have the same."
"Coming right up."
"Oh my God, the uniforms are pretty much the same."
"Really?" Said Peter with a laugh.
"Yeah my shirt was a lot shorter, but yup."
"I forgot you worked here."
"Yeah, I started sophomore year and my last day was the day before I moved San Francisco."
"Did anyone else?"
"Lisa, for about a minute. She ran up her dad's credit card. The others were busy with studying or sports. Slater had wrestling and football primarily, but he and Zack did baseball, track, and basketball. Jessie was our class president. Lisa was addicted to shopping, and Screech had all his science stuff."
"And what did you do?"
"Volleyball, cheerleading, and swimming. Plus us girls did dance club, and then we all did drama club together."
Melissa then brought out their food and drinks and made sure they didn't need anything else before moving on to her other tables.
"I missed these." Said Kelly enjoying her fries.
"You know I was thinking and I was going to broche this subject later."
"What?"
"If you ever wanted to move back and live here I could transfer to the LA office."
"Peter I love our life in New York, all of our friends are there. What about Neal?"
"Neal could use a change of scenery it'd be good for him." Said Peter with a laugh noticing how they were talking about Neal like he was their kid instead of friend.
"I appreciate the offer, Honey but I love our life in New York. I don't think moving here would be good for me not right now, not with just getting back into the fold of everything it'd feel like a step back. Maybe somewhere down the line yeah we could discuss it but right now I'm not ready."
"Whenever you are I will gladly move out here, just think I'll never have to shovel snow again." Said Peter.
They finished up their meals and Kelly paid for the meal while Peter made sure to leave a generous tip. Because who knew their waitress could probably need the money to help her family or for a dress to the prom, just like Kelly did.
When they got back to the hotel it was pretty late in the evening so the couple decided to watch a movie and check in on Neal before falling asleep.
"Hey Peter, how the vacation?"
"Good, it's going good. I assume now that you've answered the phone that you've been staying out of trouble while we've been gone?"
"Yes I have. Everyone's been keeping me busy and I've been to two gallery exhibits with Hughes since you left. How's Kelly doing?"
"She's good, here talk to her."
"Hi Honey, you doing good?"
"Yeah, how about you? How did it go seeing your's and Zack's parents?"
"It went good. On both accounts they've accepted that I've grown even more as a person. I went and saw Mr. Belding and Screech at the school we had a good time reminiscing. We're going to have dinner with the whole group tomorrow, that'll be weird but fun I think."
"Just remember they only want what's best for you and want you safe."
"I know."
After hanging up with Neal the couple settled down and started their movie. Nervous about what the next had in store for them.
The next morning Kelly and Peter woke up and got ready for their picnic lunch with the gang. Everyone including Violet, Kurt, and Eric were going to be there. They decided they'd all meet at the park and have a small barbeque. Kelly drove them there after they had stopped off at the grocery store and grabbed the meat. Everyone was bringing something that was their contribution.
"There's everyone." Said Kelly pulling into the parking lot and quickly spotting everyone she and Peter grabbed the food and headed over when they were spotted by Slater.
"Sorry we're late guys there were huge lines at the store."
"Its okay we figured you got lost." Said Slater.
"Excuse me! I do not get lost I actually know how to use a paper map. Do you? Keep in mind me, Lisa, and Kurt made it to Vegas first."
"That was Zack's fault and you know it." Said Slater with smile.
"It was your 'stolen car'." Said Kelly returning the smile. "Besides I use GPS now. If only we had those 20 years ago."
"Yeah, I'd have spent a lot less time in the woods, desert, and jail with you people."
"But we wouldn't have had the fun we did in the woods or the desert." Kelly said leaning on Slater's shoulder.
"You forgot jail." Said Slater.
"Please the only jail I was ever in was Mr. Belding's office or detention usually caused by you and my husband."
"You doing good? We didn't all scare you off right?"
"Yeah I'll come back." Said Kelly not mentioning Peter's offer.
Everyone by then had introduced themselves to Peter and made it like he had always been there. Not in taking Zack's place way but as an addition.
While she was talking to Violet and Lisa she looked over to where Jessie and Slater were talking to each other, and even pointed it out to other women.
"She's probably telling him how best to cook the burgers even though she doesn't eat red meat anymore." Said Lisa with a laugh.
"It wouldn't be them if they didn't argue at least once today." Said Kelly.
"Well maybe they found their matches." Said Violet.
"I hope so. I think they're the only two that can balance each other out." Said Kelly.
"So you follow baseball?" Asked Eric as he, Peter, Screech, and Kurt sat at the picnic tables.
"I do." Answered Peter with a nod.
"Mets or Yankees?" (its killing me to write the Y word, I root for the Red Sox)
"Oh come on, don't start this debate we want him to want to come back." Said Slater with a laugh from the grill.
"Mets."
The conversation then turned to who had a better outfield with all of them having different opinions.
"Okay you guys continue with the sports talk I'm joining the girls." Said Jessie.
"That's where you should have been the whole time Sis."
"Bite me, Eric."
"Go bite a hamburger."
"That was lame. Almost as lame as when she decked you in high school." Said Screech.
"That was a crazy week." Said Eric.
"All because you decided to blackmail Zack for cutting school." Said Kelly with a laugh.
"Zack cut school?"
"All the time. This time was for a baseball game that happened to fall on a Jewish holiday." Said Kelly with a smile. "You were a jerk though and deserved everything that happened." She finished jokingly.
"Yes I did." Said Eric admitting he was no angel back then.
"What was the craziest thing you guys did in college?" Asked Kurt.
"Got married." Said Kelly as everyone laughed.
"Vegas." Said Slater and Lisa.
"You guys were the reason we ended up in Vegas." Said Kelly.
"Yeah, we were." Said Lisa.
"What happened?" Asked Kurt.
"Screech and I got selected for the Semester at Sea program, and Zack and I had only been back together a few months by them and he was afraid I was going to meet someone else since he pissed of Dean McMann too many times since September she wouldn't let him go. So the night before we were leaving Zack comes in my room and proposes."
"What she's not saying is me, Alex, Leslie, and Screech switched rooms about 4 times while they talked." Said Slater.
"I told him no at first and then said yes on the boat after he showed up with flowers."
"Did you end up going on the trip?" Asked Peter to Screech.
"No I got sea sick before we left the dock."
"After Lisa got into town she, Alex, and Leslie decided to invite all the girls in the dorm over for a bachelorette party."
"Us guys decided at the same time to throw Zack a bachelor party, what we all didn't know was Zack and Kelly got permission from the Dean to live off campus."
"She gave us permission in hopes Zack would drop out." Added Kelly. "We then asked her to see if we could get married in the school chapel. We set the time to meet with him that night."
"See we didn't know that." Said Slater.
"Both parties started in the dorm complete with a female stripper." Said Kelly with a smile. "So Rev. Dunlap walks in and Alex thought it was the male stripper they hired and told him to disrobe. In her defense he was pretty good looking."
"He told us all to grow up and left." Said Slater.
"So that's how you all ended up in Vegas?" Asked Peter.
"Yup." Said Lisa. "Do you still have the pictures of your guys' place?"
"Yeah. He's seen them. The before and afters."
"That was a miracle restoration there. We thought Zack was kidding when he said there was a chalk outline. Until we saw it for ourselves when you guys got back from Hawaii."
"You went to Hawaii on your honeymoon."
"My grandfather owns a hotel there so we went and stayed there and actually helped out around the hotel."
"You worked on your honeymoon I didn't know that." Said Lisa.
"What work? Zack and I ran a kids group to the beach every day. That was how we furnished part of our place. With the money Grandpa paid us which we didn't want to take. We told him no the whole time and found it in our luggage when we got home. I called, and he said it was money we earned and a wedding present. I talked to him the other night, he 'retired' and Andrea runs the whole place now."
"Next vacation." Said Peter. Kelly smiled at him and nudged him with her shoulder.
While they were all eating they continued to catch up and get to know Peter. He told them of his times in Upstate New York and about some of his cases with Neal. They all got along great and by the end of the evening everyone made promises and plans to visit one another there was no way they would let any of their friends go another 15 years without speaking.
Kelly never thought anywhere in the near future that she would feel this complete but now she did. She was happier than she'd ever been now that her old life met her new life, and both would continue to grow.
THE END
