Hello all! This is written for the Continue the Story Challenge, and I'm surprised that I actually like how this turned out.
Disclaimer: I only own the plot.
"Um...calm down, just calm down...come on...you've got this..."
"Shut up."
"It's all right, deep breaths. Deep breaths…"
"Shut up."
"You're gonna make it through this. No need to worry, you've got this, darling...just push through..."
"WILL YOU SHUT UP ALREADY?!"
Lucius, after getting over his shock and slight fear, held back a retort, realizing his advice might just be making things worse.
"My apologies, darling. I'm just a bit nervous."
Narcissa deadpanned, "You're nervous? You're nervous?! What about your wife, the pregnant woman who's about to give birth?! Yeah, I bet you're nervous!"
Lucius couldn't hold back a chuckle. It wasn't often his wife broke from her gentle, loving side, at least as of late, so in complete honesty, he was kind of getting turned on by her, despite her current situation. It reminded him of their Hogwarts days together.
It hit Lucius suddenly; when was the last time his wife had made a sarcastic comment? When was the last time she snapped at him? When was the last time they had one of those "I love you so much I hate you" rows?
It had been a very long time, and Lucius had one more question. Why have they gone away?
He knew the answer, and a rather severe pain in the arm served to enforce the point.
"Um...excuse me, miss," he said to a short blonde nurse, approaching the door. He turned back to a rather concerned-looking Narcissa, "Don't worry, darling. I just need to pop out for a second...bathroom, that's all."
Lucius stepped out of the room, closing the door behind him. He glanced - almost longingly - back at it. He bit back a sigh.
"I'll be back," he vowed.
An hour later, a bright, healthy baby boy entered the world for the first time, but his father wasn't the first one to hold him.
His father missed a lot of firsts.
