Hey, guys! Here is my newest "work"! I apologize for shortness. ;)
Seddie Songfic Mike and the Mechanics - Looking back over my shoulder
Looking back over my shoulder
I can see that look in your eyes
I never dreamed it could be over
I never wanted to say goodbye
Freddie could clearly remember the angry stare Sam had given him when she left him. She didn't even say goodbye to him. In fact, she didn't say even one word. At that time, Freddie was angry, too, but now he only had that sad, lonely feeling inside his heart. Why did they even argue?
Looking back over my shoulder
with an aching deep in my heart
I wish we were starting over
oh instead of drifting so far apart
Now he remembered: He had accused Sam of being late ten times in a row, while Sam countered, he is a pedant who can't even tolerate the slightest variations and that she always came when they were supposed to meet. What Freddie tried to hide was that he only wanted her to be there on time because else he would worry about her. Sam didn't tell Freddie that she was always late because she made herself pretty before leaving. (Yes, even Sam did that.)
Everybody told me you were leaving
funny I should be the last to know
baby please tell me that I'm dreaming
I just never want to let you go
Sam hadn't told him where she went to, but he assumed she would move in at her parents' again. Since they were married, they had never argued about such trivial things. Although they were still bickering like when they were young, neither of them considered this as arguments. Why did it go off course this time?
Looking back over my shoulder
I can see that look in your eyes
turning my heart over and over
I never wanted to say goodbye
He remembered her face when she was smiling at him. He would never see that again.
I don't mind everybody laughing
but it's enough to make a grown man cry
'cause I can feel you slipping through my fingers
I don't even know the reason why
Freddie cried. He wasn't able to control himself anymore. The tears were flooding out of his eyes and down his cheeks. He didn't even want to hold them back. He just didn't care anymore. Whithout Sam life just didn't seem to make any sense.
Every day it's a losing battle
just to smile and hold my head up high
could it be that we belong together
baby won't you give me one more try
one more try
On the outside, Freddie hadn't changed at all. He desperately tried to make his environment believe he was fine. A week had passed since the day Sam left.
Looking back oh over my shoulder
(I can see) see that look in your eyes
(I never dreamed) no that it could be over
but I never wanted to say goodbye
Freddie sat at the kitchen table reading today's newspaper. Beside him there was a cup of coffee. It was 5:15 AM. Usually, Freddie would be sleeping but he wasn't able to sleep late anymore because he always had nightmares.
(Looking back) looking back (over my shoulder)
oh with an aching (there's an ache) feeling inside
(cutting me up) oh deeper and deeper
(fills me with a sadness) I can't hide (that I can't hide)
There was a creaking sound. Freddie realized that he had forgotten to repair the backdoor yesterday. Someone must have used the backdoor.
Stop! Who had opened the backdoor? He was alone at home!
He lifted his head.
"Sam??? What are you doing here?" He must be dreaming.
"I'm sorry for saying such silly things. I don't know what's gotten into me. Could you forgive me, please?"
"There is nothing I'd rather do. I'm sorry, too. And I missed you so much."
Freddie gave her a hug. He would never let her go again.
