"Finally." Olive said to herself as she put away the last dish. "Maybe now I can go out and celebrate." She stared up at the clock and noticed that it was five minutes until midnight. 'Looks like no partying tonight.' She thought, sitting down at a booth and putting her head down. A part of her wanted to cry. She couldn't believe she was alone on New Year's Eve. Everybody else had a date. Ned had Chuck. Even Emerson had a date. But who did she have? Nobody.
She heard a whimper. 'Well except Digby.' She amended her thoughts. But despite the fact that she adored Digby, she wanted human companionship.
Suddenly she heard the jingle of the bell above the door. "We're closed." She called but she heard the squeak of shoes on the linoleum. She stood up and turned around. "I said we're-Fredo!" A smile lit up her face. "You're back!"
"Couldn't let you ring in the New Year alone. Not that I assumed you'd be alone. I actually thought-"
"Fredo?"
"Yeah?"
She planted a kiss on his lips. "Happy New Year."
