Chapter 1

Wings

The sound of water rushing by seemed to get more vigorous as the light in the sky evaporated. Cassandra's clothes were damp from the spray of the water. Her feet were sore from the walk she didn't remember. Looking around trying to figure out where she was she realized the water of the river was getting louder.

"Over here," she heard from a distance, but she seemed to be drawn to the voice.

She started to feel the darkness and cold surround her. It felt like she had no room to breathe.

"No!" She screeched at the touch of sharp cold fingers. Though she couldn't see, she heard whispers over the water. Cassandra crouched on the ground afraid of the "things".

The start of laughter from the "things" caught her attention but it was frightening, so Cassandra started to run. With all her might she ran but it seemed to get her nowhere. She could feel the sprays from the water on her face. Still running franticly she almost tripped on a rock, but tried to keep her balance. Though if she did fall she would get caught and who knows what would happen to her. At first she thought it was trees brushing by her meaning she had gotten away but then realized it was the creatures grabbing her.

"Get away!" she screamed hoping someone could hear her. Though she knew no one could.

"Shh, it will all be over soon." One of the creatures hissed in her ear. While she was listening to whatever the creature said one of them grabbed her arm with much force.

In an instant she felt like she was flying and had a smile on her face because she was free. Suddenly it hit her; the cold stab of water rushed into her. All her air was gone and knocked out of her from the impact. She struggled in the strong current but she just kept sinking. She started to feel the cold of the rocks on the bottom of the river. Seeing a glisten of light in the water she looked up.

Then she saw it; a light. She couldn't breathe in the water but even that didn't stop her from gasping for air from amazement. For a moment the small light looked like a wing, no a pair of wings like an angle's wings.

"An angle, I think I'm going to heaven."She said with a smile.

Looking at the strange figure she only saw another glisten of light fly through the water. At the moment she thought it was just the reflection of the wings, but then saw it was one of the creatures from before.

"Gah!" Cass's eyes flung open with her gasping.

Cass stretched on her bed thinking of how real the dream felt. Then ignored the though and fell back to sleep even though she knew she would wake up to the same dream.
