Thank You
The silence seemed to echo across the plains of the Dark World, broken only by the wind as it whistled past. Thor had gone to scout for some sort of shelter, leaving Jane to watch over the body of the slain trickster god.
The Midgardian woman, after making sure that the god of thunder was out of sight, knelt down next to the body of her least favorite god and gently cupped his face between her small hands.
"Don't mistake this as forgiveness," she began. "I'm still absolutely furious at you for everything that you did in both New York and New Mexico. But... I don't completely hate you anymore, because you saved my life. It would be a bit awkward if I still hated you after that. So that's why I'm saying goodbye now, because I'm grateful to you." She could hardly believe that she was doing this, but she leaned over and placed a tender kiss on Loki's lips. When she pulled back, she whispered a small "Thank you," into his ear.
"If this is the reaction, perhaps I should just stay dead." Loki's voice sounded in her ear, causing her to jump. When she pulled back, she saw the green illusion magic shimmer over Loki's form for a brief moment, and when it was gone, the trickster no longer looked like he was merely sleeping save for the gaping wound in his midsection and the blackened veins on his hands and face, now, his emerald eyes were wide open, he bore a healthy complexion, he was grinning at her, and his wound was healed. No, his wound wasn't healed, it simply had never happened.
"You bastard," Jane growled at him. "You complete bastard!"
It shouldn't have been possible, but Loki's grin widened further at her statement. "I knew I liked you," he declared.
"Jane!" Thor's voice came over the cliffs, and at the sound, Loki recreated the illusion that he had been mortally stabbed. "I've found a cave," the thunder god announced, coming back over the ridge. "Let us seek shelter there." It was only just then that he noticed how Jane was hovering over Loki. "What were you doing?" He asked, genuinely curious.
Jane paused for a moment before answering. "Saying thank-you... and goodbye." She rose and turned to her lover, debating for a moment whether or not she should tell him that Loki had faked his death before finally deciding against it, since the visual evidence suggested otherwise, and she suspected that Loki would not reveal this information to his brother. "Let's go."
Thor paused for a moment, kneeling down and gripping Loki's arm. "Until we meet again in Valhalla, brother." He declared. He wasted no more time in ushering Jane across the barren wasteland to the cave that he had discovered. Jane risked sending one final glance over her shoulder in the direction of Loki's form and saw him sitting up, having dispelled the illusion magic. They were a good distance away from him, but Jane could have sworn she saw him mouth "Thank you" to her.
