Nico POV

They weren't dead. Yet. That much he could tell. Nico wasn't sure if they had hit the bottom yet, though. "They" were Percy and Annabeth. They had fallen into Tartarus, determined to close the Doors of Death. Now Nico had to lead the rest of the seven— Hazel, Leo, Frank, Piper and Jason—to the mortal side of the Doors—Epirus.

"Nico, you okay?" Hazel, his sister, asked. Her eyes were puffy, like she had been crying. Of course, that was to be expected. Everyone was close to at least one of the two heroes.

"I'm fine, just... thinking" he took a deep breath, calming himself. He had been very close o both of them. They had saved his life countless times, and were practically family—his only family.

"Well," Hazel said "We're about to tell Chiron about Percy and Annabeth. I'm pretty sure that I can sense that they aren't dead, but you know more about death than me. Any news?"

Nico grimaced. "As far as I can tell, they're not dead. I'm worried, though. Percy and Annabeth have gone on so many quests that a good many of the monsters will hold grudges against them."

"We can tell him the not dead part, at least. Who is Chiron, anyway? You guys have mentioned him once or twice, but never explained who he is."

"You can meet him in just a mo" Piper broke in, sticking her head out of the hold. Her eyes were puffy, too. "Come on, I just found some spray bottles and we've got a good mist going. It's time to break the news.
