Day 1: Childhood
Rating: K+
Summary: Sasuke looks at Boruto and it reminds him of his childhood..
Childhood
Whenever you look at the young 12-year old son of your idiotic best friend, it reminds you of your own childhood. Or rather, a childhood that you never even got to live the way any regular 12-year old shinobi is supposed to. Shouting indignant remarks at your teachers, skipping classes with your gang, hanging out with girls you like— you did none of this. Not even in your teenage.
Every single time you glance at the sunflower-haired, young brat, you remember everything that you lost in those ten years that you willed yourself to spend focusing on nothing more than hatred and revenge. And every time, it makes you wonder what would it have been like had you never left the village that one fateful night where you knocked-out the only girl who has genuinely loved you for who you are. Maybe you'd have dated her like a normal guy does. Maybe you'd even have grown much closer to Naruto in those years and who knows, maybe you would've actually accepted Kakashi as a father figure in your lonely life.
You are well-aware of the fact that its no use now to think about all the what ifs that could've been. But you simply can't help yourself from imagining the life- the better life that you could've had had you chosen to listen to the honest words of a certain pink-haired kunoichi that night and stayed. But ofcourse, rash as you are, you ignored her confession and left her alone on a cold bench. You even tried to take the life of your blonde best friend without so much as even having a second thought about your actions. A sigh escapes your lips and you watch the young teammate of your daughter, trying to finish-off the 200 sit-ups that you have ordered the boy to do. Back then, you realise, you would've trampled over anything that would've tried to get in the way of your vengeance. Things like childhood didn't even matter to you.
A group of noisy youngsters ran past the training grounds and you recognised a few of them as the children of some of your friends. Amidst his tiring sit-ups, Boruto sneaks a glance too. And from what you saw in his eyes, you can tell that the boy absolutely wants to join his bunch of friends but won't even dare to ask you about it. Well, it can't be helped that you are a strict man. But still, looking down at this young, rebellious boy makes you understand the importance of childhood..the importance of this age where you can care less and enjoy more because later on, as time passes and you begin growing-up, duties also start piling upon your shoulders.
So what if you weren't able to live your childhood? You can still make up for that. And the opportunity to do so is right in front of you, staring expectantly into the pair of your mismatched irises. You let a small, genuine smile grace your lips as you offer your only remaining hand to the heavily sweating boy. He places his smaller palm into your gloved one and stands up.
"I expect you to work extra hard tomorrow in compensation for today's leave." You command him playfully.
A wide, toothy-grin that is so reminiscent of the current, idiotic hokage, spreads across the boy's face and he nods gleefully. Why wouldn't he? Its not everyday that you let him free before his training hours with you. "Thanks, Uncle Sasuke!" he yells, taking-off in the general direction that he had seen his friends go.
You smile again. Childhood. It's depressing that you never got yours but you'll make sure that this generation spends enough of it doing things they are supposed to do.
A/N: Well, I know I could've done better but I'm very busy these days.
Hope you guys enjoyed this short fic..:3
