SURFACES
a request made by GejiMayuGirl. Geh, took so long...
Sakura was one who had always been swayed by surfaces. It had been her fatal mistake for many years of her life.
It wasn't until she was a little more mature did she understand that surfaces were silly things to believe in. There were two types of surfaces, she learned. Physical, and emotional.
Sasuke, the love of her life (or so she thought), had emotional surfaces. He never smiled, nor did he ever look happy, or excited, though his face was wonderful and handsome.
Lee, on the other hand, had physical surfaces. And while he wasn't much to look at (unless you had her sickness, which she had dubbed Lee-omnia) he was sweet and caring. He had the strangest jokes that were so weird you had to laugh. He was good with people, and always wanted to talk. Whenever he saw her frown, he would joke and talk until she cracked a smile, or cried and told him what was wrong.
Physical and emotional surfaces were very distorted, nothing like that real person.
And while part of her wishes she was with Sasuke, she also wishes that things could stay so happy forever. There was that little part, the one that was still in love with sasuke, that told her things were hopeless without him here.
But she had Naruto, who she'd also been wrong about. And she had Lee.
And really. Lee was her future. He had already purposed to her. She'd already said yes. She could move on without Sasuke.
And While Lee's surface seemed rough and childish, he was a very thoughtful man. He was the sweetest thing she'd ever known. Whenever he gave her a bouquet of flowers her inner self screamed in victory. "Take that, Sasuke!"
Useless surfaces. She could live without the fooling around, with the mistakes.
But she couldn't live without Lee, and his sweetness. Couldn't live without him at all. Sasuke... she wanted him back. He was her friend, and thus she had to save him.
But Lee was so much more. And though at first, he'd been attracted by her surfaces, now he knew more. Now he knew exactly how to deal with her, how to love her.
Surfaces are very confusing things. With Lee she could let them slip. He was that shoulder to cry on. Sasuke... just wouldn't get it. Would never see past, would always be stuck on the surface.
Sakura was just so in love it hurt. And this time, she knew she was not wrong, not wrong about it at all. The surface of this thing she had with Lee was the complete and total truth, it would never lie to her. And she would never sit there wishing it was anyone else. Never.
OWARI
