Steve and Bucky are the best thing to ever have happened to each other.

This is my first Avengers fic.

The war had ended, Bucky and Steve sat together trying to comprehend all that had taken place.

It's time. Bucky thought. He had a pressing question he was dying to ask Steve.

"Steve?"

The super soldier hummed in response.

"Was I worth it?"

Steve snapped up his head at the question. Bucky knew he had asked the same question before, but he wanted to ask it again. He wanted to be sure Steve didn't regret his decision.

Steve sighed. He opened his mouth to answer, and Bucky expected to be reprimanded for this question. Instead, he was met with a question.

"Was I worth it, Buck?"

Bucky couldn't understand what Steve meant. His confusion would have shown on his face, for Steve proceeded to elaborate.

"Was I worth all those times you picked me up? Was I worth your love when I wasn't 'The Captain America', but just skinny sick Steve Rogers? Was I worth your time when I was wallowing in the loss of my mom? Was I worth your efforts when you picked me up from the ground where I was pushed again and again? Was I worth the time you followed me on a mission and almost died? Was Steve Rogers worth it, Buck?"

Bucky didn't even need to think for an answer.

"Yes."

He had answered so fast the Steve raised an eyebrow.

"You were worth it, Steve. You were worth every single moment and effort I put in. You were worth every time I had to pick you up, because your goodness was what never stopped your from standing up from people. You might have been skinny, and sick, but you were and still are the bravest man I know. You were worth my love Steve, for you were the only one who ever loved me. You were worth the risk I took on that mission. You were worth everything. Steve Rogers was worth everything, even more so than Captain America."

Steve nodded with a smile.

"So are you, Buck. Bucky Barnes is worth everything I did and more, because you've always did the same for me. You sacrificed everything for me, Buck. Every time. I just returned the favour. You told me all those years ago that you aren't following Captain America to the war. You are following the kid from Brooklyn. In the same way, I didn't do anything for the Winter Soldier. I did everything for my friend from Brooklyn."

Bucky almost teared up. This was the guy he had tried to kill, and here he was, having given up everything for him. Even his shield.

"Steve, I…"

"Don't blame yourself, Buck. You weren't yourself. You weren't James Barnes."

"But I tried to kill you!"

"And I failed to catch you. Settles the score."

Bucky nodded and smiled softly. Steve Rogers had always won arguments.

No matter what ten words did someone say to him, his mind will always remember just one from now on. Steve.
