WHAT REALLY HAPPENED TO DARTH MAUL by Jamal Fett

A lot of people out there think that Maul really dies after his duel with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan at the end of Episode I. Sadly, you're misinformed. This is what really happens to him.

After cheating death following his battle with Obi-Wan and barely escaping Naboo, Maul decides to give up a life of crime and walk the straight and narrow. He therefore retires to a life of moisture farming on the planet Tatooine, site of the last happy moments of his life before everything started to go so wrong.

Upon his arrival, he immediately has himself de-horned by an eminent local veteranarian, Vivizect Zoltron, who makes his living de-clawing pet Banthas. Maul then changes his name and personal style, and he becomes a reformed character.

For a while he lives in blissful peace on Tatooine, but after a number of years, he begins to yearn for some excitement again.  Selling his farm, Maul gets a job tending bar at a local jazz cantina (a friendly little joint where everybody knows your name), and for a while this satisfies him (although he does come under public scrutiny for serving alcohol to under-aged customers and for instituting a "no droids" policy).

Maul finally decides that the call to adventure among the stars is too great. He thus sells his share of the bar to Biggs Darklighter, Sr. and uses the money to buy himself a space ship.  Over the next several years he becomes involved in a wild series of harrowing misadventures smuggling spice. All goes well for him in this new career for some time, until, one fateful night, having downed one too many Kashyyyk Smoothies (shaken, not stirred), he foolishly loses his ship in a card game in which all he held was a pathetic pair of two's.

Grounded, Maul is now forced to accept a humiliating desk job in civic administration.  But even in this position, he still excels!

All of this, of course, takes place in the novels. We finally see him on screen again when the next generation of heroes catches up to him on Bespin. (Only the red part was face paint.)
