With Her
His courage is fading
He feels weak, tormented
Tears fall from his sleepless eyes
His screaming hurts his ears
But nobody else can hear it
It's inside his head
Driving him to the edge
He suffers alone
Empty outside and within
Because he's lost everything
How could he let her die?
She kept him sane
Grounded
When he was with her
It didn't hurt as much
When she held him
He felt no sorrow
He was at peace with her
She wiped his tears away
And that was all that mattered
Her soft kisses
The feel of her hair
He wondered
'Is this heaven?'
But she's gone now
And his tears still come
More often
More powerful
And there's no one there
No one to save him
From the guilty breath
That lurks behind him
Creeping up his neck
Haunting him
Controlling him
And yet people praise him
Because he rid his world of evil
He is a hero
But at what cost?
Her death tortures him
He wishes that he was dead instead
But then she would feel the pain
The guilty breath
The stinging tears that fall
The sleepless nights
The screaming
And then where would she be?
Standing on the edge?
He would never wish that upon her
And so he lives on
Without her love
Empty and severed
But when he thinks of her
Her soft kisses
And the feel of her hair
The pain lessens
But it never goes away
It will never go away
Because she was his everything
And now he's left with nothing
But the sweet memories
And the nightmares
That came true
He'll never understand
Why she sacrificed herself for him
When they could have died together
Within each other arms
Because then it wouldn't matter
And death would have been welcomed
If he had been with her
