Summary: At the age of sixteen Dean knew how to be a protector, a soldier, a hunter, a gambler and a big mouth. But he had no idea how to be just who he was.
There were rules and tasks and discipline just like he'd expected, and he could deal with that. But there was also an open welcome and unquestioning acceptance from the start, and when Sonny had picked the handcuffs it was as if he'd been set free in more than one way. The man's calmness soaked up all the rage and frustration behind Dean's tough facade. He hadn't had a home for what felt like forever. He'd never dared to hope for a future of his own. And he'd never thought that someone could be proud of him just for being himself.
