He didn't do it when his good friend past away.

He didn't do it when he separated from his wife.

He didn't do it when the drugs came out.

He didn't do it when the man he cared for as a son was almost killed.

He didn't do it when the divorce papers were finalized.

He didn't do it when the president announced he had MS.

He didn't do it when Mrs. Landingham was killed.

He didn't do it when Zoey was kidnapped.

He didn't do it when Fitz was killed.

He didn't do it when Donna was badly injured.

He didn't do it when Toby had a stroke.

And he didn't do it when they all said good bye to the White House at the end of Jed Bartlett's presidency.

But tonight, tonight he sat with the bottle of scotch open and a tumbler already on the table.

Tonight, he had gotten the call. They were dead. All three of them. His son, his daughter in law, and his granddaughter.

Another senseless act of violence had touched those two hearts and they didn't survive it.

A robbery turned sour.

Josh was shot when the first bullets were fired in the movie store.

Donna was shot when the gun men took her daughter as a hostage.

Kimberly was shot in the cross-fire between the robbers and the police.

Josh had a heart attack. The stress of being shot at again was too hard for his already damaged heart.

Donna was shot in the heart. She bled out in a couple of minutes, although he assumed that her heart was already dead as she watched her husband in pain on the floor and the men take her daughter.

Kimberly was shot in the left temple. She died immediately.

CJ was the one who called him to let him know. She had already called Jed and Abbey, Toby, Sam, Charlie and Zoey. He was her last call.

Leo took another look at the bottle. He felt detached as he saw his hand pour the amber liquid from the bottle to the glass. He added the ice as an after thought.

He held the glass to his lips.

Yes tonight was a good night. Tonight was a good night to fall off the wagon.
