I Remember
A poem of Frodo, Sam, and Aragorn. How their actions made me remember those of One far greater...
by Vané Alasse

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

I see the chain around his neck
And I remember
You bore the weight of all my sin;
You took my chain of death, and cleansed
The evil I possessed within
My blackened heart.

I see their world a wicked haze
And I remember
The shadows of my world today
And how you dashed our night away
By offering eternal day
With dazzling light.

I see him bear the ring for all
And I remember
You suffered and you died for me
And every soul you have set free
From damnation eternally
If we believe.

I see his steps to the mountain
And I remember
How you staggered just for me
Beneath the sharp, accursed tree
On that cruel walk to Calvary
For my freedom.

I see him hopelessly lie down
And I remember
That I need never reach despair
Or suffer from insufferable care
For you are with me now and e'er,
My beacon bright.

I see him carry his master
And I remember
You promise you will always be
A true friend, and can easily
Pick me up, too, and carry me
Through life's struggles.

I see him rally his armies
And I remember
You give me hope to live each day
And you inspire me to obey
Each battle cry you send my way
Of spiritual war.

I see his coronation day
And I remember
You are my high, exalted king
And to you will all people sing
And through the halls of Heaven ring:
You're God alone.

I see him sailing far away
And I remember
That when I die I'll leave this place
And sail to your loving embrace;
You'll wipe each tear off of my face
In Heaven's light.

I see this story reach its end
And I remember
That you are not a fantasy
And that all need you desperately
Oh, Heavenly Father, let them see
Your salvation!
