Shikamaru was seated on the couch, staring out his apartment window at the fluffy white clouds floating in the bright, blue sky when someone knocked on his front door.
Groaning, he raised himself slowly off of the couch, walked over to the door and pulled it open. Then he took in the person standing in front of him and blinked.
Temari rolled her eyes and pushed past him, saying as she did, "I know I've been gone for awhile but I didn't expect my appearance to stun you into silence."
Shikamaru turned to her, tried to find his voice, couldn't, then turned back and closed the door. When he turned around again, he had finally found the strength to speak. "Temari," he said, in a faint, shuddering voice, "you have a child."
Temari looked down at the sleeping infant in her arms, smiled fondly, then looked back up at him and responded, "No. We do."
A/N: So I know I'm supposed to be on hiatus but I just watched Atonement and wanted to write something to cheer me up. Part 2's in the works. Written for the LJ community 30 flowers.
